Engineering Fluoroacetate Dehalogenase by Growth‐Based Selections on Non‐Natural Organofluorides

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
We present a high‐throughput selection system to engineer fluoroacetate dehalogenases (FAcDs). By challenging E. coli populations that produce diverse FAcD libraries to grow on non‐natural organofluorides as their sole carbon source, we isolated a panel of FAcD variants with improved activity and altered substrate specificity.

Flight test pilot evaluation of a delayed flap approach procedure [PDF]

open access: yes
Using NASA's CV-990 aircraft, a delayed flap approach procedure was demonstrated to nine guest pilots from the air transport industry. Four demonstration flights and 37 approaches were conducted under VFR weather conditions. A limited pilot evaluation of

Multimodal Locomotion of Soft Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This review comprehensively surveys recent advances in multimodal locomotion within soft robotics. Typical locomotion modes are summarized and categorized. Furthermore, the underlying mechanisms enabling multimodal locomotion are discussed and classified into three primary categories: active control‐based, reconfiguration‐based, and environment ...

RECONSTRUCTION OPTIONS FOR CHALLENGING PERINEAL DEFECTS

open access: yesİstanbul Tıp Fakültesi Dergisi
Objective: Abdominoperineal resection and pelvic exenteration for the surgical treatment of advanced colorectal or gynaecological cancers can result in large perineal defects and severe surgical site morbidity. Several regional flaps can be used to treat

Flight-measured X-24A lifting body control surface hinge moments and correlation with wind tunnel predictions [PDF]

open access: yes
Control-surface hinge-moment measurements obtained in the X-24A lifting body flight-test program are compared with results from wind-tunnel tests. The effects of variations in angle of attack, angle of sideslip, rudder bias, rudder deflection, upper-flap

Comparative Neuromechanical Wing‐Actuation Architectures of Flapping Flight in Insects, Hummingbirds, and Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Natural fliers achieve remarkable aerial performance through diverse wing neuromechanical systems integrating actuation, sensing, and control. This study synthesizes neuromechanical architectures in insects and hummingbirds, identifying two key functional types‐Dual Neural‐Mechanical Oscillator and Neurally‐modulated Mechanical Oscillator‐ and ...

Mechanism of xanthine oxidase in flap ischemia-reperfusion injury and advances in targeted therapy: a mini review

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
Ischemia-reperfusion injury in flaps refers to a cascade of pathophysiological reactions that aggravate tissue damage or even cause necrosis. During the period of ischemia followed by restored blood reperfusion, a burst of reactive oxygen species is ...

The Alternating Surface Segmented Lap Joint: a Design for Thin Highly Loaded Joints [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
The combination of thin airfoil sections and high aerodynamic loads on many wind tunnel models presents a major problem for attachment of flap elements. Conventional methods of attaching fixed control elements such as lap and tongue-in-groove joints are ...

Design Challenges to Expand the Functionality of Drones: Deformable Rotorcraft and Nature‐Inspired Flapping Drones

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This review systematically analyzes deformable drones, including extendable, foldable, and tilting configurations, along with nature‐inspired flapping rotorcraft. By classifying deformation principles and structural mechanisms, design trade‐offs, functional capabilities, and future development potential are highlighted.
