The Abbe Flap Converted to an Island Flap
Scandinavian Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1986A modification of the Abbe flap is described. The pedicle is cut all around the vermilion leaving only a muscle cuff with the nutrient labial vessels. This increases the flexibility of the Abbe flap without reducing its viability. The division of the pedicle is a simplified procedure. The technique has been used on ten patients.

We present our experimental and clinical experiences with the free neurovascular forearm flap. The flap is based on the radial artery, one of the great veins of the forearm (cephalic, basilic, or interconnecting vein), and one or two cutaneous forearm nerves (ulnar, median, or lateral).

Local flap reconstruction of pedal defects can be accomplished with a variety of techniques. Multiple geometric constructs have been described for closure of foot defects. Each has its own unique principles which can be adapted to certain locations and premorbid conditions. Local flaps considered for closure of foot defects should lie within the higher

Interpolation flaps provide an excellent method for reconstruction of large or deep defects where adjacent local tissue cannot supply sufficient donor tissue for repair. These flaps use tissue imported from nonadjacent sites with an inherent blood supply (vascular pedicle) to support the flap while attached to the recipient defect until ...

The nasoseptal flap had an important role in the development of endoscopic endonasal surgery of the cranial base. The flap is pedicled upon the posterior septal artery, which is a terminal branch of the sphenopalatine artery. The reliable vascular supply promotes rapid healing and the flap is an effective barrier for the prevention of CSF leaks.

The Limberg rhombic flap is one of the best techniques for covering a skin defect that is not amenable to straight-line closure. It is a simple, versatile technique that requires only the correct placement of a rhombic donor flap for its execution. An easy method is presented for planning the design of a rhombic flap to take full advantage of all its ...

The intimal flap may occur in any artery after severe blunt trauma with or without fracture of bone and occasionally in high-velocity gunshot wounds. It should be suspected in any patient with a history of blunt trauma who has signs of arterial insufficiency. On arteriography, it is recognized by a bandlike shadow in the column of dye and diminution in

Hand Clinics, 2014
The role of the hand as the primary form of interaction with the surrounding physical environment is often underappreciated, and injuries to it can become especially debilitating. The hand has evolved into a complex, intricate structural conglomeration of bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, and neurovascular structures, with an overlying soft tissue ...

The nasolabial flap is a straightforward and time-tested reconstructive option suitable for a variety of facial and oral defects. The superiorly and inferiorly based variants are well described in the literature and offer a rapid and reliable alternative to time-consuming microvascular free flaps and less esthetic skin grafts.

The cervicofacial flap was first described in 1969 as a means of obtaining skin cover following orbital exenteration. It has been used since for a wide variety of reconstructive purposes in the orbital, lower lid and upper cheek areas. The vascular supply, narrow pedicle and excellent final cosmetic result from the use of this flap are demonstrated.
