Bio-inspired design of flapping-wing micro air vehicles
The Aeronautical Journal, 2005AbstractIn this paper the development and flight testing of flapping-wing propelled, radio-controlled micro air vehicles are described. The unconventional vehicles consist of a low aspect ratio fixed-wing with a trailing pair of higher aspect ratio flapping wings which flap in counterphase.

KINEMATICS OPTIMIZATION FOR A FLAPPING-WING MICRO AIR VEHICLE
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2005Abstract A flight-dynamics oriented simulation model of a flapping-wing Micro Air Vehicle (MAV) has been developed. This concept is based on flapping flight performed in nature by insects or hummingbirds. An optimization of the flapping kinematics of the wing has been led, in order to maximize the mean lift and thus the payload.

2015Abstract : In the PECASE program, we address another challenge of small-scale flight: energetics. Gliding forward flight potentially alleviates both of these challenges since gliding requires minimal power and forward flight can achieve passive stability (e.g. using a positive wing dihedral).
