Magnetoactive Metamaterials: A State‐of‐the‐Art Review
Magnetoactive metamaterials combine magnetoactive composites with architected metastructures to enable contactless, tunable control of mechanical, acoustic, and elastic properties. This review highlights recent advances in their design, fabrication, and applications in soft robotics, biomedical devices, and adaptive structures and outlines future ...

Nanoscale chitin fiber orientations in the insect wing play a critical role in adapting to complex mechanical demands. These findings reveal two distinct and functionally adaptive chitin orientation patterns in the membranes that vary regionally, optimizing mechanical resilience and deformation control.

Toward a Dielectric Elastomer Resonator Driven Flapping Wing Micro Air Vehicle
In the last two decades, insect-inspired flapping wing micro air vehicles (MAVs) have attracted great attention for their potential for highly agile flight. Insects flap their wings at the resonant frequencies of their flapping mechanisms.

A Rotary Wing System for Micro Air Vehicle Applications. Part 1 [PDF]
The goal of the paper is to propose a new type of ornithopter that avoids the mechanical difficulties of a flapping system. It uses a modified design of a cycloidal propulsor.

This paper investigates magnetic soft actuators for aerospace use. Various actuators with different magnetic particle fractions are created and tested to enhance their multifunctional performance, specifically displacement ability and mechanical strength, which significantly improved their mechanical strength by incorporating natural and synthetic ...

Flapping Wing Micro Air Vehicle
Background: Vibrational stability is a natural phenomenon where a system if vibrating at sufficiently high frequencies, can bring itself back into a stable state if perturbed. This is akin to the high frequency flapping that hummingbirds and insects employ to maintain a hovering position and fly. Micro Air Vehicles (MAV) are a subset of air

Study comprises the first field study of the flight altitude of the common crane (Grus grus) during seasonal migrations across the Baltic Sea. Our investigations clearly indicate that despite weather‐induced variations in the flight altitude, the majority of cranes will cross the Baltic Sea at altitudes between 50 and 250 m.

Abstract Agricultural landscapes hold great potential for biodiversity conservation; however, this will require finding solutions that work for both people and nature. Increasingly, the conservation community is calling for more cross‐disciplinary research integrating ecological questions with social and behavioural sciences for a more complete and ...

Design and Construction of an Experiment for the Investigation of the Effects of Gust on Flapping Wing Micro Air Vehicle Power Consumption [PDF]
In recent years, the promising nature of flapping wing flight has led researchers to investigate the wing morphology and unsteady wing aerodynamics found in insects to aid in the design of modern micro air vehicles (MAVs).
