Morphological Changes and Alterations in Erosion–Accretion Patterns in a Semiarid Brazilian River

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 9, September 2026.
Flow regulation by the Castanhão Dam significantly altered discharge dynamics and reduced sediment transport in the Jaguaribe River. Long‐term analysis (1958–2025) reveals attenuated flood peaks, decreased channel migration and progressive downstream stabilisation, highlighting persistent geomorphic adjustments in a regulated semiarid fluvial system ...

The Impacts of Southwest Indian Ocean Tropical Cyclones on Transient Weather in Réunion

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 46, Issue 11, September 2026.
Tropical cyclones which make passage near Réunion can have significant impacts on transient weather relative to long‐term means on the island. In this paper, these impacts were determined by a topological analysis of non‐landfalling tropical cyclones. The relationship between storm intensity, distance, duration, and seasonality plays an equal role in ...

Climatology and Trends of Sub‐Daily Precipitation Extremes in Croatia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 46, Issue 11, September 2026.
Sub‐daily extreme precipitation indices reveal pronounced spatial variability, with the highest intensities and frequencies across the Adriatic region and the highlands. Seasonal and diurnal patterns highlight distinct regional behaviour, including summer maxima over the continental interior and nocturnal or early‐morning peaks along the Adriatic coast.

Through a Glass Darkly: The Esk Valley Floods

open access: yesKōtuitui: New Zealand Journal of Social Sciences Online, Volume 21, Issue 3, September 2026.
Recent decades have seen a refocus from flood mitigation to risk reduction in favour of more proactive approaches to risk reduction and flood risk management. This study draws on the findings from surveys of residents in the Esk catchment of Hawkes Bay who experienced two significant flood events in 2018 and 2023 and residents’ perceptions of flood ...

How Good Is Your Forecast? The Importance of User‐Centred, Decision‐Relevant Evaluation of Forecasts and Climate Services

open access: yesMeteorological Applications, Volume 33, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
Example of a probabilistic seasonal river flow forecast, compared to decision‐relevant drought thresholds and observed river flow, and used as part of a user‐centred co‐evaluation workshop. This paper presents a user‐centred framework for evaluating forecasts and climate services, combining participatory approaches, event‐based contingency tables and ...
