Methanol-Assisted Flash Sintering of ZnO

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2020
In a prior work [Nie et al., Scripta Materialia 142, 79-82 (2018)], we have demonstrated that water vapor can trigger flash sintering of ZnO powder pellets at room temperature to achieve ~98% of the theoretical density in 30 seconds without any external furnace heating.

Phenomenological understanding of flash sintering in MnCo2O4

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2018
Abstract The dual role of electric field in the flash sintering process of conducting MnCo2O4 is demonstrated. The flash and conventionally sintered MnCo2O4 samples produced at different temperatures are characterized using energy dispersive X-ray and micro-Raman spectroscopy to elucidate the micro-level spatial distribution of evolved phases.

Flash sintering of sodium niobate ceramics

Materials Letters, 2019
Abstract Dense and stoichiometric NaNbO3 ceramics were difficult to be prepared by conventional sintering methods because Na2O easily volatilized at elevated temperature. In this work, the volatility of Na2O was suppressed by applying an electrical field assisted sintering method.

Flash spark plasma sintering of 3YSZ

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2019
Abstract Flash SPS (FSPS) consolidation of 3YSZ cold pressed pellets was investigated. The results show that FSPS allows ultra-rapid consolidation of 3YSZ samples in 30–90 s under an applied electric field. The DC field induces electrochemical blackening.

Flash Sintering of Ceramics: A Short Review

2017
“Flash sintering” occurs when an electrical potential difference is applied across a ceramic powder compact and is characterised by an electrical power surge at a specific combination of electric field and temperature, accompanied by extremely rapid densification.
