Posterior Lumbar Osteotomy for Flat Back in Adults

Journal of Spinal Disorders, 2001
Several studies describe sagittal realignment for flat back and related kyphotic decompensation. Official guidelines for sagittal and the frontal realignment have not been developed. In this retrospective study, the authors examined 10 patients with flat back syndrome and treated a related kyphotic decompensation syndrome by posterior wedge osteotomy ...

Flat Fluorescent Lamp For LCD Back-Lighting

SPIE Proceedings, 1989
Flat fluorescent lamps of 2.6"~12"size for LCD back-lighting have been developed by using hollow cold cathodes. An excellent result is obtained concerning brightness, uniformity of emitted light from lamps and life compared with conventional back-lighting systems.

Boomerang backs flat universe

Physics World, 2000
The geometry of the universe is Euclidean and space is flat. This has now been confirmed from detailed measurements of the cosmic microwave background – the radiation left over from the big bang – by an international team of astronomers from Italy the UK, the US, Canada and France.

Flat fluorescent lamp for LCD back-light

Conference Record of the 1988 International Display Research Conference, 2003
Flat fluorescent lamps for LCD backlighting have been developing using hollow cold cathodes. Excellent uniformity results have been obtained compared with the conventional backlighting system of a tubular lamp. The lamps made by this method are superior in life span, because of the use of a cold cathode as the electrode, compared to the conventional ...

How Stimulating is the Flat Tax? Does the Flat Tax Earn Itself Back?

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2007
The adverse distributional effects of a flat tax are well-known enough and are also revealed in empirical research on Belgian data. However, advocates of the flat tax argue, correctly, that most of these studies do not take into account cost recovery.

Flat on your back or back to your flat? Sources of increased hospital services utilization among the elderly in British Columbia

Social Science & Medicine, 1990
Between 1969 and 1985, the British Columbia hospital system allocated an increasing proportion of the province's total hospital days to elderly patients who stayed for 60 days or more. By 1985/86, long stay patients accounted for almost 50% of all days.

Siliciclastic Back-Barrier Tidal Flats

2011
Back-barrier tidal flats occur along micro- to mesotidal coasts landward of barrier islands and in the shelter of coastal sand spits and bars. Tidal flats are generally flood dominated, the grain size progressively decreasing shoreward. The sediment can be divided into sand, slightly muddy sand, muddy sand, sandy mud, slightly sandy mud, and mud.

The Bench Press: A Comparison Between Flat-Back and Arched-Back Techniques

Strength & Conditioning Journal, 2019
ABSTRACT THE ARCH-BACK BENCH PRESS TECHNIQUE IS BECOMING MORE COMMON WITH THE RISING POPULARITY OF THE SPORT OF POWERLIFTING. THIS TECHNIQUE IS BEST IMPLEMENTED BY COACHES WHO AIM FOR THEIR ADVANCED ATHLETES TO HANDLE HIGHER LOADS WITH REDUCED RANGE OF MOTION IN MESOCYCLES WHERE STRENGTH AND POWER ARE PRIORITIZED.

Active vibration control for marine platform flatness using back-stepping scheme

Proceeding of the 11th World Congress on Intelligent Control and Automation, 2014
Issues of vibrations in marine applications have become a major concern for many years. As a result, this paper investigates the flatness control of fitted equipment on marine vessels, which are subjected to disturbances from random sea wave. A back stepping control strategy is proposed to reduce the effect of disturbance simulated as random sea waves ...

Belt Forces and Surface Model for a Cloth-Backed and a Rubber-Backed Flat Belt

Journal of Mechanisms, Transmissions, and Automation in Design, 1988
The normal and tangential belt forces for two types of flat belts are measured and compared. From friction theory, it was assumed that the actual contact area Aa is proportional to normal pressure p; i.e., Aaαpn. For a flat belt with cloth backing, the n =2/3 is obtained for the belt surface contact model.
