Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

T 3-invariant heterotic Hull-Strominger solutions

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
We consider the heterotic string on Calabi-Yau manifolds admitting a Strominger-Yau-Zaslow fibration. Upon reducing the system in the T 3-directions, the Hermitian Yang-Mills conditions can then be reinterpreted as a complex flat connection on ℝ3 ...

A Berger-type theorem for metric connections with skew-symmetric torsion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We prove a Berger-type theorem which asserts that if the orthogonal subgroup generated by the torsion tensor (pulled back to a point by parallel transport) of a metric connection with skew-symmetric torsion is not transitive on the sphere, then the space

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Flat Foot based on Clarke's Angle Method and Overweight among Medical Students of Universitas Airlangga

open access: yesJuxta: Jurnal Ilmiah Mahasiswa Kedokteran Universitas Airlangga
Introduction: A flat foot is an arch deformity, and being overweight is one of the risk factors. It can cause problems such as fatigue, pain in the ankle and back, foot pain (especially during long walks or sports), and disturbances in balance and ...

Performance and Reliability Degradation of CMOS Image Sensors in Back-Side Illuminated Configuration

open access: yesIEEE Journal of the Electron Devices Society, 2020
We present a systematic characterization of wafer-level reliability dedicated test structures in Back-Side-Illuminated CMOS Image Sensors. Noise and electrical measurements performed at different steps of the fabrication process flow, definitely ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Is there an impact of feet position on squatting birth position? An innovative biomechanical pilot study

open access: yesBMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, 2019
Background The squatting birth position is widely used for “natural” birth or in countries where childbirth occurs in non-medical facilities. Squatting birth positions, like others, are roughly defined so a biomechanical assessment is required with the ...
