MSFC hot air collectors. Phase 1: Test report [PDF]

open access: yes
A development test program of 3 hot air flat plate solar collectors is described in detail. The pressure drop versus flow rate performance characteristics for these collectors, mounted in series, was determined under 14 different test conditions each of ...

High magnetic field theory for the local density of states in graphene with smooth arbitrary potential landscapes

open access: yes, 2010
We study theoretically the energy and spatially resolved local density of states (LDoS) in graphene at high perpendicular magnetic field. For this purpose, we extend from the Schr\"odinger to the Dirac case a semicoherent-state Green's-function formalism,

Hospital‐to‐home transition for with asthma‐related hospitalizations: A study protocol for a pragmatic randomized controlled trial

open access: yesJournal of Hospital Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood with morbidity disproportionately affecting children across different racial and/or ethnic groups and socioeconomic statuses, specifically Black children and those living in poverty. Hospitalization for asthma is a significant risk factor for future readmissions.

Development of Selective Plane Illumination Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering Spectral Microscopy for Improved Cellular Imaging

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
Selective plane illumination (SPI) is combined with SERS spectral imaging to reduce background, improve image contrast, and enable improved spectroscopy from molecules on the surface of nanoparticles. This approach provides improved imaging and spectroscopy from nanoparticles in complex environments, such as biological cells.

Sensory, proximate, and microbiological quality evaluation of five commercially important native and imported dry fish in Bangladesh

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Dried fish is a popular protein‐rich food in Bangladesh, yet its safety and quality vary based on its origin, processing, and storage conditions. This study evaluated the sensory, proximate, and microbiological qualities of five commercially important dry fish available in Bangladeshi markets, including both native (Bangladesh) and ...

The use of edible insects in human food

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract The world population is expected to reach approximately 10 billion people by 2050, which will significantly increase global food demand and may lead to agricultural shortages and a higher risk of food insecurity. In this context, this review discusses the potential of insects as alternative sources of animal protein, addressing their ...

Revisiting the systematics of Brevipalpus flat mites (Tenuipalpidae): phylogeny, species groups and cryptic diversity

open access: yesPeer Community Journal
Phytophagous mites in the genus Brevipalpus (Tenuipalpidae) can be major pests, causing direct damage to their host plants or vectoring viruses. However, a phylogeny-based classification to understand their evolution and predict their bioecological aspects is lacking.

Shatter cones in Illinois: Evidence for metoeritic impacts at Glasford and Des Plaines [PDF]

open access: yes
Shatter cone fragments were recovered from rock cores at two previously suspected, but heretofore unverified, impact structures in Illinois. Both sites are buried features known from geophysical surveys and drill holes.
