Stationary reflector-augmented flat-plate collectors

Solar Energy, 1982
Abstract A general procedure for determining the optimum geometry of a reflector-augmented solar collector which produces a desired pattern of flux-augmentation is described. The example used for illustration is a stationary collector whose winter performance is to be improved. Consideration both a flat-plate collector with a bottom reflector and one

Calculation of flat-plate collector utilizability

Solar Energy, 1978
Abstract The “utilizability” or φ-curve method developed by Whillier [1] and later generalized by Liu and Jordan[2, 3], can be a very useful design tool for some types of solar energy systems which utilize conventional flat-plate solar collectors. The generalized φ-curve method in its original form, however, has several drawbacks.

Flat-Plate and Evacuated Tube Collectors

2013
Solar-energy collectors are devices employed to gain useful heat energy from the incident solar radiation. They can be of the concentrating or the flat-plate type. A simple flat-plate solar energy collector consists basically of an absorbing surface which absorbs the insolation and transmit it in form of heat to a working fluid commonly air or water. A

The ‘Albedo’ Flat-Plate Solar Collector

1984
In the ‘albedo’ flat-plate collector, the rear solid insulation is replaced by an air-gap and window. With the collector mounted some distance above a white roof or ground, the absorber is irradiated also on its rear face, by sun and sky radiation reflected from the roof, thereby increasing the income of radiation in the order of 20–60%.

Honeycomb devices in flat-plate solar collectors

Solar Energy, 1965
Abstract The results are presented of a theoretical study on the performance of a flat-plate type solar collector in which a selectively transmitting honeycomb panel is mounted between the absorbing flat plate and the outer glass cover. An analytic study of the natural convection process in such panels has shown that, under certain conditions ...
