Metabolic Regulation of Dimethylsulfoniopropionate Cleavage and Dimethyl Sulfide Production in Halomonas sp. D47

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) is a major marine organosulfur compound central to climate‐relevant dimethyl sulfide (DMS) production. In Halomonas sp. D47, DMSP catabolism is revealed to be coordinated by two transcriptional regulators, AcuR and AcuZ, which control gene expression by sensing DMSP and its metabolites.

Flat plate collector performance determined experimentally with a solar simulator [PDF]

open access: yes
The NASA is constructing a new office building at Langley Research Center that will utilize solar energy for heating and cooling. A collector technology program being conducted at Lewis will provide the basis for selecting collectors for use at Langley ...

BLADE‐ON‐PETIOLE Genes Enable Genetic Bottleneck Mitigation Through Cross‐Species Repurposing of Floral Persistence Traits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that BLADE‐ON‐PETIOLE (BOP) proteins regulate floral abscission and senescence in tomato by interacting with TFAM1 to form transcriptional condensates controlling the ARABIDOPSIS THALIANA HOMEOBOX GENE 1 (ATH1)‐mediated abscission pathway.

Solar hot water system installed at Days Inn Motel, Jacksonville, Florida [PDF]

open access: yes
The solar system was designed to provide 65 percent of the hot water demand. Water in the liquid flat plate collector (900 square feet) system automatically drains into the 1000 gallon lined and vented steel storage tank when the pump is not running ...

Gas-filled, flat plate solar collectors

open access: yes, 2012
This work treats the thermal and mechanical performances of gas-filled, flat plate solar collectors in order to achieve a better performance than that of air filled collectors. The gases examined are argon, krypton and xenon which all have lower thermal conductivity than air. The absorber is formed as a tray connected to the glass.

Combining the Pitcher and Lotus Plant: Supericephobic and Superhydrophobic Silicone Films

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Based on bench‐top nanomolding of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with optimized silicone oil content, we developed hierarchically structured silicone films by essentially combining the properties of the lotus and pitcher plant; particularly we are able to achieve water contact angle as high as 171° and ice adhesion strength as low as 11.5 kPa (i.e ...

Fe2+‐ Induced Activation of Single and Dual Metal Site—Lattice Oxygen Mechanism in Fe Rich NiFe‐LDHs for Oxygen Evolution Reaction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fe‐rich NiFe‐LDH catalysts derived from MOFs, showing superior OER activity via lattice oxygen mechanism activation. ABSTRACT Developing a durable and efficient oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalyst without noble metals is essential for the economical and sustainable production of hydrogen by alkaline water electrolysis.
