Long-term performance of flat-plate solar collectors

Applied Energy, 1980
Abstract A simple model is used to calculate the angular and time dependence of solar radiation. The resulting computer program is particularly suited to the evaluation of the performance of a solar system as a function of the collector area; it is used as a subroutine in a program determining the optimal dimensions of a solar system according to the

Solar motors with flat-plate collectors

Solar Energy, 1966
Abstract Research at the Laboratory of Meteorological Physics of the University of Dakar has been devoted for several years to the study of solarenergy utilization. An experimental solar motor has been operating since August 1962. This motor drives a pump lifting 8 to 10 liters water per minute from a depth of 13 meters.

ANALYSIS OF A FLAT PLATE SOLAR COLLECTOR

International Journal of Engineering Applied Sciences and Technology, 2022
In the solar-energy industry great emphasis has been placed on the development of "active" solar energy systems which involve the integration of several subsystems: solar energy collectors, heat-storage containers, heat exchangers, fluid transport and distribution systems, and control systems.

Flat Plate Solar Thermal Collectors—A Review

2021
Solar thermal flat plate collectors (STFPC) are the mainstay in modern household solar thermal applications and in industrial sectors requiring low-temperature applications. They are easy to design and manufacture and are available in many forms. STFPCs are used in water heating, crops drying, timber seasoning, space heating and solar absorption ...

Mathematical Modeling of Flat Plate Solar Collector

2020 IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics, Drives and Energy Systems (PEDES), 2020
The solar energy collector is the heart of a flat-plate solar collector (FPSC) system. This is designed and developed for operation in the low-temperature range (ambient to 60°C) or in the medium temperature ranges (ambient to 100°C). FPSC is designed and developed to absorb incident solar energy, convert it into heat and transfer the heat energy to a ...

Transient Considerations of Flat-Plate Solar Collectors

Journal of Engineering for Power, 1974
The effects of thermal capacitance in the modeling of the performance of a flat plate solar collector have often been neglected because of the computation involved. But because the solar collector is inherently exposed to continuously variable weather conditions, capacitance effects may be significant.

Transient simulation of flat-plate solar collectors

Solar Energy, 1988
Abstract A computer model derived from the basic laws governing thermal energy exchanges between surfaces is presented for the transient simulation of flat-plate collectors. The approach of subdivision along the collector was used in the development of energy equations on each of the surfaces in a collector. The model was validated with measured data

SELECTIVE FLAT PLATE COLLECTORS FOR SOLAR DRYERS

Drying Technology, 1983
ABSTRACT Five different selective surfaces coated with oxides of nickel, manganese, chromiUm, lead, am iron on galvanized iron substrate by electro-deposition or chemical method were studied for properties such as absorptivity, emissivity, temperature rise of the surface and stagnation air temperature.

The ‘Albedo’ Flat-Plate Solar Collector

1984
In the ‘albedo’ flat-plate collector, the rear solid insulation is replaced by an air-gap and window. With the collector mounted some distance above a white roof or ground, the absorber is irradiated also on its rear face, by sun and sky radiation reflected from the roof, thereby increasing the income of radiation in the order of 20–60%.

Thermodynamic optimization of solar flat-plate collector

Renewable Energy, 2001
Second-law modeling of flat-plate collectors is performed with the objective of describing collector performance when entropy generation is minimum. Effects of irreversibility are demonstrated. Factors mostly effecting the generation of entropy are discussed.
