A figure of merit for selective absorbers in flat plate solar water heaters

Solar Energy, 2013
Abstract We derive from first principles an analytical expression for a figure of merit (FM) for a selective solar absorber in a single glazed flat plate water heater. We first show that the efficiency of a collector with an absorber with absorptance α and emittance e , relative to the maximum efficiency for an ideal absorber, can be expressed ...

Experimental Validation of Exergy Optimization of a Flat-Plate Solar Collector in a Thermosyphon Solar Water Heater

Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering, 2018
In this paper, a flat-plate solar collector used in thermosyphon solar water heater has been optimized; and the optimization results used to fabricate a flat-plate solar collector with locally available materials. The constructed heater has then been tested under the climatic conditions of the city of Santa in Cameroon and the measured data used to ...

Investigation on system efficiency of a flat plate solar water heater

2011 International Conference on Electric Technology and Civil Engineering (ICETCE), 2011
A design method of a flat plate solar water heating system is presented. By analyzing the thermal efficiency of the whole system, it is obtained that daily radiant exposure is inversely proportional to the system efficiency. The condition that the heat gain in the system is proportional to the daily radiant exposure is achieved. The influencing factors

Experimental Study of the Performance of A Flat Plate Solar Water Heater

2019 4th Scientific International Conference Najaf (SICN), 2019
Flat Plate collector is the most common type of solar water heater, due to its low price, easy installation, and long life. The efficiency of a solar collector is key to evaluating its performance in thermal facilities, especially applications requiring low or medium temperatures.

A study on thermosyphon solar water heater with parallel flat-plate collector

Energy, 1986
Abstract The performance of a thermosyphon solar water heater with parallel flat-plate absorber has been studied both theoretically and experimentally. The overall system thermal efficiency obtained with a parallel-plate is higher than for a tube-in-sheet absorber type. Theoretical values are in agreement with experimental data.

Performance study of an indigenously built flat plate solar water heater

2009 1st International Conference on the Developements in Renewable Energy Technology (ICDRET), 2009
A 60 liter capacity flat plate solar water heater has been designed and constructed with locally available material. The size is selected considering the daily requirement of a small family. In performance evaluation we have recorded water temperature of the solar water for consecutive hours during the mentioned sun shine period.

Analysis of a flat plate solar collector/storage water heater with evaporation

Energy, 1984
Abstract We analyse the performance of a flat-plate collector with a constant rate of evaporation of flowing water between a glass cover and an absorbing plate. The effects of fluid-flow velocity, depth of fluid and length of the absorbing surface are discussed. We have allowed for periodic variation of the solar intensity and ambient air temperature

Performance Study on Flat Plate Solar Water Heater with Copper Nanoparticles

2020
Evaluating the improvement in efficiency and heat transfer rate in heat exchangers using additives has been the centre of attraction for many researchers. In this study, a solar flat plate water heater is modelled using ANSYS Fluent, and the simulated results are compared with experimental data.
