‘When joy comes your way, you have to grab it!’ Troubling how queer joy features in the lives of LGBT+ school‐attending youth in South Africa

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Recently, the concept ‘queer joy’ has gained interest in LGBT+ scholarship in the West. I use this scholarship as an entry point to explore how school‐attending LGBT+ youth express joy and how joy serves as a form of resistance against gender and sexuality norms in educational settings.

Performance Analysis of Cool Roof, Green Roof and Thermal Insulation on a Concrete Flat Roof in Tropical Climate

open access: yes, 2015
In the tropics, the earth surface receives abundant solar radiation throughout the year contributing significantly to building heat gain and, thus, cooling demand.

IMACulate(DE3), an E. coli Strain for High Purity His‐Tagged Protein Purifications

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Immobilised Metal Affinity Chromatography (IMAC) is widely used to purify his‐tagged recombinant proteins from Escherichia coli. However, endogenous contaminants with histidine clusters, such as GFAT and PDH E1 proteins, are often co‐purified with the target protein.

Loss, persistence and reversal of phenotypic traits

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The irreversibility of complex trait loss has long been a tenet of evolutionary biology. However, this idea is increasingly at odds with the numerous documented exceptions across the Tree of Life. We synthesise this growing body of evidence across a diverse array of taxa and traits, exploring the evolutionary conditions that enable ...

Condensation in flat roofs

open access: yes, 1970
Condensation in attics and flat roofs of residential dwellings in Canada is a problem which, besides a nuisance, can and does cause damage to ceiling and wall structure. Each individual factor involved in the formation of condensation is known and can be calculated, but it is very difficult to predict when and how these factors, which together cause ...

Orchard netting impacts on biodiversity leading to cascading effects at the ecosystem level

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Agriculture must ensure food production without further compromising the ecosystem functions upon which it depends. Agricultural practices should therefore avoid harming farmland biodiversity, especially of taxa that supply the key ecosystem services (e.g.

PREDICTING THERMAL PERFORMANCE OF ROOFING SYSTEMS IN SURABAYA

open access: yesDimensi: Journal of Architecture and Built Environment, 2015
Traditional roofing systems in the developing country likes Indonesia are still be dominated by the 30o, 45o, and more pitched angle roofs; the roofing cover materials are widely used to traditional clay roof tiles, then modern concrete roof tiles, and ...

Study on the snow drifting modelling criteria in boundary layer wind tunnels [PDF]

open access: yesConstructii: Journal of Civil Engineering Research, 2014
The paper presents a study on modelling the wind drifting of the snow deposited on the flat roofs of buildings in wind tunnel. The physical model of snow drifting in wind tunnel simulating the urban exposure to wind action is not frequently reported in ...

Cooling Potential Of Passive Roof Treatments On The Concrete Flat Roof In Penang, Malaysia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The rise in global temperature due to global warming has a major impact on the environment and building occupants. The higher concentration of greenhouse gases, in the atmosphere, especially carbon dioxide (CO2), is thought to be the reason for this ...
