Influence of Upper Plate Structure on Flat‐Slab Depth: Numerical Modeling of Subduction Dynamics

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2019
Western North and South America have been affected by flat‐slab subduction where a segment of the subducting plate becomes horizontal below the overlying continent.

The Advanced Theory of Flat Slabs

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1966
AbstractIn a preceding paper the author dealt with the bending moments in a uniformly loaded flat slab supported by columns with circular sections. In this paper the shearing forces in the flat slab, its deflection and the slopes of the deflection surface are expressed by the functions which are deduced from the Theta functions.

Voided "Two-Way" Flat Slabs

Structures Congress 2013, 2013
Voided slabs have been used in construction of reinforced concrete floor systems for over 100 years. This article offers an historical perspective on this technology. A discussion of early applications thru several case studies is followed by on overview of traditional systems still in use and concludes with a discussion on new technological ...

Experiments on the collapse response of flat slab structures subjected to column loss

Magazine of Concrete Research, 2019
Flat slab structures are prone to progressive collapse due to their relatively heavy self-weight and susceptibility to punching shear failure.

Serviceability uncertainties in flat slabs

Structural Concrete, 2014
AbstractService load tests on the 6th floor of the full‐scale reinforced concrete building at BRE Cardington are described. Both deflections and reinforcement strains were measured. Finite element analyses of the floor slab were then undertaken using the measured material properties and four different models for the behaviour of the concrete in tension,

Earthquake Response of Flat‐Slab Buildings

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1994
System identification, three-dimensional linear dynamic analysis, and code-specified conventional equivalent static techniques are used to evaluate the response of a nine-story flat-slab building during the Loma Prieta Calif., earthquake of 1989. Four different models are used in the finite-element–based dynamic and static analyses.

Slab STRESS – Seismic Testing of a R/C Flat Slab Structure

2019
A research entitled Slab STRESS - Slab STructuralRESponse for European Seismic Design, within the European project SERA - H2020-INFRAIA-2016-1, is currently in progress to study the response of flat slab floors under combined gravity and lateral loads.

Membrane Analysis of Flat Plate Slabs

ACI Structural Journal, 1989
Tests of 47 one-way reinforced concrete slab strips subjected to uniformly distributed loads are reported. The slabs are typical of those used in the flat-plate designs of protective construction. An analytical procedure modified from previous investigations is used as basis for determining the peak flexural capacity of slabs.
