Flat slab-column connections

Progress in Structural Engineering and Materials, 2000
Flat slabs are common structural elements for apartments, office and institutional buildings. Their weak point is the resistance against punching in the vicinity of the supporting columns. In this article the experimental evidence and the parameters that influence the shear resistance of two-way slabs are presented first.

Design for Punching of Flat Slabs

2013
Punching, which may be suffered by two-dimensional (2D) reinforced-concrete (RC) structural elements (such as flat slabs, plates, footings, etc.) in regions under the action of concentrated load, is widely considered to be a ‘shear’ (non-flexural) type of failure.
