Is There a Flatness Problem in Classical Cosmology? [PDF]

open access: yesSpringer Proceedings in Physics, 2014
I briefly review the flatness problem within the context of classical cosmology and examine some of the debate in the literature with regard to its definition and even the question whether it exists. I then present some new calculations for cosmological models which will collapse in the future; together with previous work by others for models which ...

Nöther's symmetries in non-flat cosmologies

Il Nuovo Cimento B Series 11, 1994
We study non-flat Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmologies searching for Nother symmetries in the pointlike Lagrangians derived from a general non-minimally coupled gravitational action. The presence of a quadratic coupling makes the dynamics degenerate if the spatial-curvature constantk is different from zero, while exact solutions, through the ...

Why Flat Space Cosmology Is Superior to Standard Inflationary Cosmology

open access: yesJournal of Modern Physics, 2018
Following recent Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) observations of global spatial flatness, only two types of viable cosmological models remain: inflationary models which almost instantaneously attain cosmic flatness following the Big Bang; and non-inflationary models which are spatially flat from inception.
