Melatonin as a radioprotective agent against flattening filter and flattening filter-free beam in radiotherapy-induced lung tissue damage

International Journal of Radiation Biology
Radiotherapy is a widely used treatment method in oncology, applied by delivering high-energy particles or waves to the tumor tissue. Although tumor cells are targeted with radiotherapy, it can cause acute or long-term damage to healthy tissues.

SU‐E‐T‐793: Static‐Gantry and Rotational IMRT with Flattening Filter Free versus Flattening Filtered Beams

Medical Physics, 2011
Purpose: The flattening filter free (FFF) photon beams offer high dose rate, greatly speeding up treatment delivery. This work aims to evaluate the impact of FFF beam on treatment planning for both static‐gantry (sIMRT) and rotational IMRT (rIMRT). Methods: Both FFF and flattening filtered (FF) photon beams from a Siemens Artiste machine, calibrated to

A comparison of phantom scatter from flattened and flattening filter free high-energy photon beams

Medical Dosimetry, 2015
Flattening filter free (FFF) photon beams have different dosimetric properties from those of flattened beams. The aim of this work was to characterize the collimator scatter (Sc) and total scatter (Scp) from 3 FFF beams of differing quality indices and use the resulting mathematical fits to generate phantom scatter (Sp) data.
