Three new fleas from Sulawesi, Indonesia (Siphonaptera: Pygiopsyllidae & Ceratophyllidae)

open access: yesParasite, 2006
Gryphopsylla maxomydis n. sp. (Pygiopsyllidae), Medwayella rubrisciurae n. sp. (Pygiopsyllidae) and Macrostylophora theresae n. sp. (Ceratophyllidae) are described from endemic rodents in Sulawesi.

The Fleas (Siphonaptera) in Iran: Diversity, Host Range, and Medical Importance. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2017
BACKGROUND:Flea-borne diseases have a wide distribution in the world. Studies on the identity, abundance, distribution and seasonality of the potential vectors of pathogenic agents (e.g.

Local factors associated with on‐host flea distributions on prairie dog colonies

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2018
Outbreaks of plague, a flea‐vectored bacterial disease, occur periodically in prairie dog populations in the western United States. In order to understand the conditions that are conducive to plague outbreaks and potentially predict spatial and temporal ...

Approaching a large deviation theory for complex systems [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Dyn. 106 (2021) 2537, 2020
The standard Large Deviation Theory (LDT) is mathematically illustrated by the Boltzmann-Gibbs factor which describes the thermal equilibrium of short-range-interacting many-body Hamiltonian systems, the velocity distribution of which is Maxwellian. It is generically applicable to systems satisfying the Central Limit Theorem (CLT).

Relationships between functional alpha and beta diversities of flea parasites and their small mammalian hosts

open access: yesParasitology
We studied the relationships between functional alpha and beta diversities of fleas and their small mammalian hosts in 4 biogeographic realms (the Afrotropics, the Nearctic, the Neotropics and the Palearctic), considering 3 components of alpha diversity (

Dermal neutrophil, macrophage and dendritic cell responses to Yersinia pestis transmitted by fleas. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2015
Yersinia pestis, the causative agent of plague, is typically transmitted by the bite of an infected flea. Many aspects of mammalian innate immune response early after Y. pestis infection remain poorly understood.

New Pyridobenothiazolone Derivatives Display Nanomolar Pan‐Serotype Anti‐Dengue Virus Activity

open access: yesChemMedChem, EarlyView.
A ligand‐based strategy is employed, starting from hit compound 2, to develop the C‐2 modified pyridobenzothiazolone 19 as a pan‐serotype nanomolar DENV‐1‐4 inhibitor. Investigations of the mechanism reveal the peculiar ability to abolish the infectivity of virions in a second infection.

The Ehrenfest urn revisited: Playing the game on a realistic fluid model [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E 76 (1), 011104:1-6, 2007, 2005
The Ehrenfest urn process, also known as the dogs and fleas model, is realistically simulated by molecular dynamics of the Lennard-Jones fluid. The key variable is Delta z, i.e. the absolute value of the difference between the number of particles in one half of the simulation box and in the other half.

A 2015 outbreak of flea-borne rickettsiosis in San Gabriel Valley, Los Angeles County, California

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2018
Although flea-borne rickettsiosis is endemic in Los Angeles County, outbreaks are rare. In the spring of 2015 three human cases of flea-borne rickettsiosis among residents of a mobile home community (MHC) prompted an investigation.
