Vacuum Circuit Breakers in Flexible AC Transmission Systems
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2012This paper shows two applications for using vacuum circuit breakers (VCBs) in flexible ac transmission systems in the high-voltage (HV) power grid. This is first a mechanically switched reactor, which is series connected to a thyristor-controlled series compensator in order to enhance the inductive working range.

Variable-structure control of flexible AC transmission systems
[1992] Proceedings of the 31st IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2005A variable-structure control of a flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) is used by devices including dynamic braking-resistors and dynamic series-capacitors. The recognized electromagnetic transient program (EMTP) indicates that the proposed control is highly successful for large-signal transient stability and for the improvement of electric power ...

RGA applications in the control of flexible AC transmission systems
2003 46th Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2006FACTS damping control is superimposed on FACTS normal control functions and hence its effectiveness can be hampered by the interactions between FACTS normal control and damping control function. This paper proposes a modified method based on the relative gain array (RGA) theory to assess the interactions between FACTS normal control and damping control

Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS)
2016Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS): Newton Power-Flow Modeling of Voltage-Sourced Converter-Based Controllers introduces different voltage-sourced converter (VSC)-based FACTS controllers and VSC-based high-voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) systems and their working principles, explaining how FACTS controllers exchange real and reactive power with

Flexible AC transmission systems: technology for the future
[1991] Proceedings of the 20th Electrical Electronics Insulation Conference, 2002A novel concept of power systems design and operation has been developed: flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS). FACTS technology can increase the loading on existing systems and assist in directing power flow in an interconnected network. The concept is based on the following view: systems are mechanically controlled for the most part, and the ...

Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) controllers: an overview
International Journal of Energy Technology and Policy, 2006Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) controllers are being used in the power systems from the 1970s with the objective of improving system dynamic performance. Due to the environmental, right-of-way, and cost problems in both bundled and unbundled power systems, many of transmission line have been forced to operate in almost their full capacities ...

Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) Controller in Power Transmission
2018Secure and reliable operation of the power system is a critical issue for large, complicated, and interconnected power system networks. Security constraints such as thermal limits of transmission lines and bus voltage limits must be satisfied under any operating point in order to deliver reliable power to the consumers.
