Power System Control with Distributed Flexible AC Transmission System Devices

open access: yes, 2009
Distributed flexible AC transmission system (D-FACTS) devices offer many potential benefits to power systems. This work examines the impact of installing D-FACTS devices by studying the sensitivities of power system quantities such as voltage magnitude ...

Nonthermal plasma approaches for combating implant‐associated infections: A compendious review

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Implant‐associated infections pose serious clinical challenges. Non‐thermal plasma (NTP) modifications overcome this bottleneck in distinct ways relative to traditional sterilization methods. Gas‐phase plasmas generate highly energetic species, UV radiation and reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS), which alter the implant surface properties.

Mechanical Properties and Quantitative Analytical Modelling of Micro/Nanocellulose Co‐Modified Insulating Papers With Different Aspect Ratios

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The incorporation of nanocellulose‐doped insulating paper into the material composition of a given structure has been demonstrated to enhance the material’s mechanical properties and retard the development of cracks. However, the effects of different length‐to‐diameter ratios of nanocellulose are different.

IMPROVEMENT OF POWER AND VOLTAGE QUALITY IN POWER SYSTEM DISTRIBUTION USING FACTS (SVC & DSTATCOM)

open access: yesDiyala Journal of Engineering Sciences, 2015
Power quality is one of the important fields in the electrical power and distribution system. In order to reduce the power losses and improve voltage level in electrical power and distribution system, Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices ...

Comprehensive Design and Experimental Validation of 30 kV Ultra‐Fast Flexible Controllable Arresters for HVDC Systems

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT To effectively suppress transient overvoltages in HVDC systems, the design and experimental validation of a multi‐module series controllable arrester are presented. The voltage‐limiting performance, series voltage equalisation capability, and robustness under fault conditions in high‐voltage scenarios require further research.

Accounting Rules and the Labor Market for Accountants

open access: yesJournal of Accounting Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this study, I explore how accounting rules—in particular the restrictiveness of GAAP—have impacted the labor market for accountants. I find that when the rules become more restrictive, there are fewer students majoring in accounting and fewer accountants and auditors overall. The overall number of accounting positions that firms recruit for

APPLICATION OF FACTS DEVICES IN POWER SYSTEMS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A reliable, stable and economically feasible electric power demand has been increasing rapidly in recent years. The complex interconnected power systems experience stability problems which lead to the overall system interruptions.

The specifics of non‐routine task changes: A granular approach

open access: yesContemporary Economic Policy, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper estimates granular specific non‐routine tasks and examines employment reallocation across those tasks in the United States. Employment shifts into decision‐making, technology, and information‐related tasks account for 90% of high‐wage employment growth.

Impacts Of Facts Controllers On Damping Power Systems Low Frequency Electromechanical Oscillations

open access: yes, 2015
This paper presents a study comparing the effects of four flexible ac transmission systems (FACTS) controllers, the static var compensator (SVC), the static synchronous compensator (STATCOM), the thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC) and the ...
