Motion Simulation of Flexible Aircraft

AIAA Modeling and Simulation Technologies Conference and Exhibit, 2007
This study investigates new methods for improving the motion simulation of flexible aircraft. In part icular, the work concentrates on improving the accuracy of flexible aircraft motion simulation by splitting motion signals into their oscillating and non -oscillating components. The non -oscillating component of the motion signals is processed through

Flight Dynamics of Highly Flexible Aircraft

Journal of Aircraft, 2008
An analysis and parametric study of the flight dynamics of highly flexible aircraft are presented. The analysis extends previous work of the authors, used to predict the atypical flight dynamic characteristics of highly flexible flying wings, to conventional configurations with one or more fuselages, wings, and/or tails.

Identification of a Flexible Aircraft Derivatives

2021
This chapter discusses the neural modeling of the flexible aircraft and how to extract the aerodynamic derivatives and structural mode shape parameters of flexible modes using the neural partial differentiation (NPD) method. The effects of flexibility on the flight dynamics of an aircraft have been shown to be quite significant, especially as the ...

Cruise altitude flexibility of jet transport aircraft

Aerospace Science and Technology, 2010
This paper introduces concepts for the reduction of the cruise altitude of jet-powered transport aircraft. The design analysis is reduced to consideration of six parameters: profile drag, induced drag, structural weight, thrust-specific fuel consumption, gross wing area and relative wing thickness.

Gust effects on a flexible aircraft

The Aeronautical Journal, 1991
Aircraft response to atmospheric turbulence is a basic problem in aeronautical design. Several uncertainties still exist about the most adequate mathematical model for it. A recent investigation conducted by AGARD revealed that different users follow very different criteria. The reasons for this diversity in analysis methods is only partially due to the

Gust Response of Highly Flexible Aircraft

47th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference
14th AIAA/ASME/AHS Adaptive Structures Conference
7th, 2006
The paper presents a methodology for calculating the flight dynamic characteristics and gust response of highly flexible aircraft. The aeroelastic model is based on a geometricallyexact, nonlinear beam model coupled with large angle aerodynamic model. The gust response is calculated based on various gust models.

Control-Oriented Modeling for Flexible Aircraft

Journal of Aircraft
Flexible aircraft designs with high-aspect-ratio wings and lightweight structures are increasingly adopted to achieve improved fuel efficiency. To design a controller for a flexible aircraft, a low-order model of its dynamics that captures the aeroelastic behavior is needed.
