Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association, 2016 편평족은 내측 종아치(longitudinal arch)가 감소 혹은 소실되어 족 저부가 편평하게 되는 변형의 총칭으로, 흔히 후족부의 외반과 전족부의 회외 변형이 동반되어 나타난다. 편평족의 유병률은 연 구자들에 따라 다양하게 보고되고 있는데, 이는 연령, 성별, 체중 과 인종에 따라 그 변이가 매우 크기 때문이다. 종아치는 출생 당 시에는 나타나지 않으나 약 5세경까지 종아치가 형성되어 3세에 는 54%에서, 6세경에는 24%에서만 편평족을 보인다. 일반적으 로 성인에서의 유병률은 약 20%인 것으로 보고되고 있다.
