The effect of wing flexibility on sound generation of flapping wings

Bioinspiration & Biomimetics, 2017
In this study, the unsteady flow and acoustic characteristics of a three-dimensional (3D) flapping wing model of a Tibicen linnei cicada in forward-flight are numerically investigated. A single cicada wing is modelled as a membrane with a prescribed motion reconstructed from high-speed videos of a live insect.

Flexible Wings for Transportation

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1972
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Flexible wings for transportation involves the use of flexible fabric-like lifting surfaces that can be folded or packaged before and after use. This paper is limited to uses of flexible wings for transportation of passengers and cargo from point to point on earth and to emergency use of flexible wings in ...

Improved Multibody Model of Flexible Wing

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2013
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">In the development of High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) UAVs and their control the flexibility of the wing must be taken into account. The wing of this type of UAVs, usually made of highly flexible composite materials, has high aspect ratio with significant bending-torsional ...

Dynamic Response Analsysis of Flexible Wings

Proceedings of the 2018 4th International Conference on Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering, 2018
A methodology of dynamic response analysis for flexible wings by time-domain tool which is constituted by geometrically-exact nonlinear mixed-formulation couple with dynamic stall model ONERA, and unsteady vortex-lattice method. The Goland wing is included here to find the flutter velocity.

Resilin in dragonfly and damselfly wings and its implications for wing flexibility

Journal of Morphology, 2011
AbstractAlthough there is mounting evidence that passive mechanical dynamics of insect wings play an integral role in insect flight, our understanding of the structural details underlying insect wing flexibility remains incomplete. Here, we use comparative morphological and mechanical techniques to illuminate the function and diversity of two ...

Dihedral effect of a flexible wing

Journal of Aircraft, 1965
The dihedral effect of a flexible wing is considered as a critical aeroelastic problem because of the importance of dihedral in determining lateral-directional dynamic stability and the large changes in dihedral that result from symmetrical wing bending during longitudinal maneuvers that approach limit load factor.
