Transonic shock-induced dynamics of a flexible wing with a thick circular-arc airfoil [PDF]

open access: yes
Transonic shock boundary layer oscillations occur on rigid models over a small range of Mach numbers on thick circular-arc airfoils. Extensive tests and analyses of this phenomena have been made in the past but essentially all of them were for rigid ...

Reprogrammable Phase‐Transition Composites for Adaptive Dynamic Shape Morphing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This paper reports a bio‐inspired reprogrammable phase‐transition composites that uses the stiffness change induced by reversible solid‐liquid phase transition to program and regulate the material deformation actuated by reversible liquid‐vapor phase transition, thereby achieving adaptive dynamic deformation in a controllable manner, and enabling ...

Minimum mass sizing of a large low-aspect ratio airframe for flutter-free performance [PDF]

open access: yes
A procedure for sizing an airframe for flutter-free performance is demonstrated on a large, flexible supersonic transport aircraft. The procedure is based on using a two level reduced basis or modal technique for reducing the computational cost of ...

High‐Brightness, Wide‐Gamut, and High‐Resolution Structural Colors via Ultrafast Laser Oxidation of Ti/TiO2 Films

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ultrafast laser writing on titanium (Ti)–titanium dioxide (TiO2)–Ti sandwich films triggers controllable oxidation (〉200 nm) to create vivid, durable structural colors. The colors reach 〉 80% of the standard RGB (sRGB) gamut, up to 60% peak reflectance, and 30,000 dots per inch (DPI) resolution for art and anti‐counterfeiting.

Controlled Optically Active Hierarchical Nanostructures of Side‐Chain Sequence‐Regulated Graphene Nanoribbons

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The restrained side‐chain accessibility and versatility of GNRs extremely impede their multifunctionality, solution processability, and numerous solution‐based applications. We report herein a robust liquid‐phase bottom‐up synthesis approach for high‐efficiency preparation of side‐chain sequence‐regulated functional GNRs.

Flight test results from a supercritical mission adaptive wing with smooth variable camber [PDF]

open access: yes
The mission adaptive wing (MAW) consisted of leading- and trailing-edge variable-camber surfaces that could be deflected in flight to provide a near-ideal wing camber shape for any flight condition. These surfaces featured smooth, flexible upper surfaces

Meter‐Scale Ultra‐Large‐Area Flexible Electroluminescent Devices Enabled by Aerosol Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a simple aerosol spraying method using modified luminescent ink to fabricate meter‐scale flexible alternating current electroluminescent (ACEL) devices. Enhanced particle dispersibility and film uniformity yield impressive brightness up to 500 cd m−2, positioning these devices as effective luminous navigation signs for industrial ...

Broadband Achromatic Programmable Electromagnetic Camouflage via Fluidic‐Accessible Metasurface

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A fluidic access metasurface enables dynamic, broadband electromagnetic illusions. By physically reconstructing conductive patterns with liquid metal, the metasurface achieves real‐time, pixel‐level control over phase dispersion. This allows for the programmable generation of arbitrary strong scattering point arrays, effectively deceiving high ...
