Regional lumbar sagittal mobility; measurement by flexicurves

open access: closedClinical Biomechanics, 1986
A technique is described for assessing lumbar sagittal mobility, which distinguishes between the motion of the upper and lower lumbar regions. The method employs a draughtsman's flexible curve and requires the location of three specific spinal landmarks.

Reliability and minimal detectable change of spinal length and width measurements using the Flexicurve for usual standing posture in healthy young adults1

open access: closedJournal of Back and Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation, 2010
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to: 1) investigate the inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of use of the Flexicurve for measurement of spinal length (L), thoracic (TL) and lumbar length (LL), thoracic (TW) and lumbar width (LW), and 2) quantify measurement error and minimal detectable change at the 95% CI (MDC95) for the same measurements.

Noninvasive Measurement of Lumbar Sagittal Mobility: An Assessment of the Flexicurve Technique

Spine, 1991
The use of flexicurves to measure lumbar sagittal mobility was subjected to a series of reliability and validation experiments. Appropriate statistical methods were described and used to quantify intraobserver and intrasubject variability and to determine limits of agreement with measurements from radiographs.
