Flexoelectric Transduction in Hafnium-based NEMS

open access: yes
Flexoelectricity, the coupling between electric polarization and strain gradient, is a universal phenomenon in dielectric materials. When a material bends, electric charges are generated, and inversely, applying an electric voltage induces bending.

Nanomechanics of flexoelectric switching

open access: yes, 2021
We examine the phenomenon of flexoelectric switching of polarization in ultrathin films of barium titanate induced by a tip of an atomic force microscope (AFM).

Anomalous dipolar flexoelectric effect in a nematic main-chain polymer

open access: yes
An anomalously large flexoelectric effect is predicted in the nematic phase of thermotropic main-chain polymers, which have a defined orientation of subsequent monomers bonded on the chain. We identify two different ranges of order parameters.

Using Ab Initio Simulations to Examine the Flexoelectric Effect in Perovskites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Flexoelectricity is a property that dielectric materials exhibit where they produce polarization when subject to an inhomogeneous deformation. In the past, this effect has been largely ignored, as its effect in bulk materials has been much less ...

Flexoelectric effect in non-homogenous dielectrics

open access: yes, 2022
Flexoelectricity is a different electromechanical coupling without this material symmetry limitations, hence universal for all dielectrics. Flexoelectricity relies on symmetry breaking beyond the material chemistry by either boundary conditions (bending, torsion), topology (architected metamaterials), the combination of multiple materials (composites ...
