Enhanced Actuation Stress in Variable Stiffness Liquid Crystal Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) filled with low‐melting‐point alloy particles exhibit a fivefold increase in actuation stress and tunable stiffness. At low filler concentrations, mechanically enhanced network entropy boosts force output, while higher concentrations enable variable stiffness. This composite design mimics muscle‐like behavior, advancing

4D Printing of Polyethylene Glycol‐Grafted Carbon Nanotube‐Reinforced Polyvinyl Chloride–Polycaprolactone Composites for Enhanced Shape Recovery and Thermomechanical Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study introduces polyethylene glycol‐functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to enhance dispersion, interfacial bonding, and 4D printability in polyvinyl chloride‐PCL nanocomposites. The optimized 4D composite (0.5 wt% CNT) achieves a 25% increase in tensile strength, 95.78% shape fixity, and 5‐s recovery time.

Influence of Thermoplastic Polyurethane Content on Interlaminar Adhesion of Hot‐Pressed Aramid Fabrics

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Optimized hot‐pressing conditions (200°C, 10 MPa, 25 min) were identified using a DOE approach. Two TPU layers (29.9 wt%) achieved the best interlaminar adhesion, yielding a 67% increase in T‐peel strength. Dynamic mechanical analysis revealed lower activation energy at optimal composition, indicating improved fiber‐matrix interaction.
