Synergistic Effects on the Mechanical, Thermal, and Morphological Properties of HDPE Composites Reinforced With Walnut Shell and Nano‐Calcium Carbonate

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
This study explores the mechanical properties of HDPE‐based composites reinforced with walnut shell (WS) and Nano‐CaCO3. The addition of Nano‐CaCO3 enhanced tensile and flexural strength, demonstrating its reinforcing effect. These findings highlight the potential of HDPE/WS/Nano‐CaCO3 composites for structural applications, offering insights into ...

Bending performance changes during prolonged canine eruption in saber‐toothed carnivores: A case study of Smilodon fatalis

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The canine of saber‐toothed predators represents one of the most specialized dental structures known. Hypotheses about the function of hypertrophied canines range from display and conspecific interaction, soft food processing, to active prey acquisition.

Reducing formaldehyde emissions and enhancing performance of particleboards through the incorporation of activated carbon produced from Scots pine wood residues

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Wood‐based composite boards present a problem due to formaldehyde emissions from engineered particleboard, which pose health and environmental risks. This study explored the production of activated carbon (AC) from Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) wood residues using phosphoric acid (H3PO4) as a chemical activator.

Restoration of human tooth enamel

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Human tooth enamel has remarkable properties but lacks self‐repair ability. Existing restorative materials cannot fully replicate enamel's microstructure and function, resulting in low restorative efficiency. This review summarizes the formation process and characteristics of enamel, and current restorative materials and future research directions are ...

A critical study of sustainable biocomposites developed from rheologically distinct poly(butylene adipate‐co‐terephthalate) (PBAT) reinforced with biocarbon from coconut (Cocos nucifera) for rigid applications

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
This work highlights the development of a sustainable composite with improved dimensional and thermal stability as well as mechanical performance, for rigid application. To promote sustainability and a circular economy, we have reduced PBAT percentage content by half and incorporated waste coconut shell up to 50 wt.%.
