Biaxial disc flexure – modulus and strength testing [PDF]

open access: possibleBritish Ceramic Transactions, 1999
There is widespread use of biaxial testing of ceramics, but relatively little information concerning the accuracy of testing, and the pitfalls that can arise unless the test is carefully prescribed. The present paper reviews recent work in measuring elastic moduli using a biaxial natural frequency method, and in investigating some of the potential ...

The Flexure Modulus of Elasticity of Orthodontic Wires

Journal of Dental Research, 1983
The flexure moduli of elasticity of solid and multi-stranded orthodontic wires were determined. Results for the solid wires approximated their tensile values, but the differences were statistically significant for the stainless steel, chromium-cobalt-nickel, and nickel-titanium alloys. The flexure moduli of the multi-stranded wires ranged from 0.89 to

Studies on the flexural modulus of structural foams

Journal of Polymer Research, 1994
An investigation based on I-Beam models was undertaken in this paper for extending knowledge regarding the flexural modulus of structural foam. The applicability of five I-Beams models (I-Beam A, B, C, D and E) including a newly developed one (I-Beam E) were investigated in this work.

Flexural Strength and Flexural Modulus of Fiber-Reinforced, Soft Liner–Retained Implant Overdenture

The International Journal of Prosthodontics, 2021
To compare the flexural strength and modulus of ball-soft liner–retained overdentures vs ballsocket– retained overdentures, as well as to evaluate the effect of using glass fiber reinforcement on the mechanical properties of ball-soft liner–retained overdentures.A total of 80 overdenture specimens were fabricated and divided equally into four groups (n

Determination of the flexural modulus of elasticity of orthodontic archwires

Dental Materials, 2010
To design a protocol for the determination of the flexural modulus of elasticity of wire with high accuracy and precision.Cantilever bending was used at long span and low loads, using a laser displacement sensor. Various wires were tested for proof-of-concept: stainless steel, Elgiloy, Wiptam and a gold alloy, with primary attention being paid to the ...

Flexure Modulus of Orthodontic Stainless Steel Wires

Journal of Dental Research, 1981
The flexure modulus of elasticity of standard stainless steel orthodontic wires was determined by the use of an iterative finite element technique to be 25.4 x 106 psi (175 x 103 MN/m2). This technique accounts for the configurational changes in the test specimens due to the relatively large deflections during the cantilever test.

A Comparison of the Flexural and Impact Strengths and Flexural Modulus of CAD/CAM and Conventional Heat-Cured Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA).

Journal of Prosthodontics, 2018
PURPOSE The introduction of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology to the field of removable prosthodontics has recently made it possible to fabricate complete dentures of prepolymerized polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA ...

Flexural strength and modulus of a step‐cured resin composite

Acta Odontologica Scandinavica, 2004
In an attempt to reduce marginal contraction gaps, a step-curing mode of light polymerization of resin composite has been proposed. It was hypothesized that such an exposure mode, having an initial reduced curing rate, would result in composite having a lower modulus of elasticity than composite exposed in one step.

Revisiting the correlation between the dynamic modulus and the flexural modulus of hot mixture asphalt

Construction and Building Materials, 2021
Abstract The compressive dynamic modulus (E*) and the flexural modulus (MF) of an asphalt mixture are two of the main criteria in structural design and evaluation of flexible pavements. The correlation between these properties and the characterisation of their trends indicates a dynamic response of the asphalt concrete mixtures.
