Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.

Experimental and Numerical Modal Analysis of Composite Sandwich Structures Using Surfboards as Model Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents an experimental and numerical modal investigation of composite sandwich structures using surfboards as model systems. By comparing different core materials and reinforcement strategies, the study demonstrates how local stiffeners influence vibrational response and introduce characteristic modal features, highlighting modal ...

Influence of the Flexural Fatigue Properties of Recycled Aggregate Concrete Under Different Emery Replacement Ratios

open access: yesBuildings
Five groups of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) mixtures with mass replacement ratios of emery (0, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%) were prepared. The cubic compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength, and flexural fatigue properties under ...

Flexural Properties of Fiber‐Reinforced Composites [PDF]

open access: yesPAMM, 2005
AbstractTo describe the macroscopic mechanical behavior of composite materials with biaxial weft‐knitted fabric reinforcement, a difference between the flexural and tensile stiffness must be taken into account. Due to the periodic structure of the composite, the material behavior can be investigated on a unit cell.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Flexural Vibration Attenuation Properties of Phononic Crystals

open access: yesKey Engineering Materials, 2019
Phononic crystals (PCs) have the ability to have phononic bandgaps dependent on the acoustic properties of its constituent materials (i.e., mass, elasticity). Forming a 1D periodic variation using a viscoelastic material allow the PC to have more wave vibration attenuation in the longitudinal direction. In this study, the low transmission zones and the
