FLEXURAL RIGIDITY OF MULTILAYER PLATES

Mechanics of Solids, 2020
The flexural rigidity of a thin elastic multilayer plate with transversely isotropic layers is considered. If the rigidity of the layers is very different, the classical model based on the hypothesis of a straight normal is not applicable and the effect of lateral shear must be taken into account.

Colonoscope flexural rigidity measurement

Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, 1998
A testing device is developed that determines the stiffness, or flexural rigidity, of an endoscope at specific locations down its length by subjecting it to a compressive axial force, a situation similar to the actual forces applied to the endoscope during a clinical procedure.

Flexure of thin rigid contact lenses

Contact Lens and Anterior Eye, 2001
The flexure of spherical rigid contact lenses was measured on the eyes of 10 young subjects using a videokeratoscope. Five subjects had little or no with-the-rule astigmatism (

Factors Determining Rigid Contact Lens Flexure

Optometry and Vision Science, 1997
Many factors have been demonstrated to influence flexure of rigid contact lenses, but the contributions of surface tension and eyelid forces to flexure are not well understood. We placed lenses on a model eye consisting of a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) base which could be flexed, and measured resultant flexure with a videokeratoscope.

Flexural Rigidity of Annular Flange Connections

Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology, 1998
In order to analyze the vibration of a structure whose elements are connected with bolts, it is necessary to estimate the flexural rigidity of bolted connections. Some studies have been reported on annular flange connections subjected to external bending moments. In these studies, the bolt axial force and the sealing performance are examined in detail,

Flexural Rigidity of a Single Microtubule

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2002
Microtubules, which are flexible biopolymers, can be used for nanotechnology applications (e.g., nano-actuator) as they have a rigidity similar to that of plexyglass and other plastic materials. The flexural rigidity, or bending stiffness, of microtubules was measured using a laser trapping technique and dark-field microscopy.

Flexural Rigidity of Concrete Column Sections

Journal of the Structural Division, 1971
The examination of theoretical stiffness ratios for reinforced concrete sections under uniaxial bending and axial load has shown that a reasonably simple set of approximate equations can be derived to enable a safe estimate of such stiffnesses to be computed.

Flexural rigidity of a liquid surface

Journal of Statistical Physics, 1991
The energy of a mass of liquid is evaluated asymptotically in powers of the range of the intermolecular potential divided by a typical dimension of the liquid. The leading term is the internal energy, proportional to the liquid volume. The second term is the energy of surface tension, proportional to the area of the liquid surface.

Flexural Rigidity and Elastic Constant of Cilia

Journal of Experimental Biology, 1972
ABSTRACT The flexural rigidity of the large abfrontal cilia of Mytilus has been measured with a flexible glass micro-needle. The same cilium has similar values to the flexural rigidity irrespective of the phases of beat cycle (including the recovery phase) and of the direction of force applied.
