Damped two-axis axially collocated flexure hinge

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2023
Broadband motion control in flexure-based stages can benefit from passive damping enhancement at their flexible structures. This paper develops a damped two-axis axially collocated (2-AC) flexure hinge with damping-enabling hybrid inserts and analytically derives its loss factor model based on hybrid (empirical and analytical) compliance modeling and ...

Corner-Filleted Flexure Hinges

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2000
The paper presents an analytical approach to corner-filleted flexure hinges. Closed- form solutions are derived for the in-plane compliance factors. It is demonstrated that the corner-filleted flexure hinge spans a domain delimited by the simple beam and the right circular flexure hinge.

MEMS-Based Conjugate Surfaces Flexure Hinge

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2015
This paper presents a new concept flexure hinge for MEMS applications and reveals how to design, construct, and experimentally test. This hinge combines a curved beam, as a flexible element, and a pair of conjugate surfaces, whose contact depends on load conditions.

Design calculations for flexure hinges

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2002
This article presents design equations for calculating the compliance or spring rate of rectangular single-axis hinges and right circular hinges. The design equations are the result of an exact deduction and are concise in their expressions, so it is more convenient to use them in calculating and analyzing flexure hinges and flexure hinge mechanisms ...

A generalized model for conic flexure hinges

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2009
Flexure hinges have been used to produce frictionless and backlashless transmission in a variety of precision instruments. Many kinds of flexure profile were proposed during the past decade. The present work brings elliptical arc, parabolic, and hyperbolic profiles together by proposing a generalized conic flexure hinge model.

Elliptical-Arc-Fillet Flexure Hinges: Toward a Generalized Model for Commonly Used Flexure Hinges

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2011
Flexure hinges have been used to produce frictionless and backlashless transmissions in a variety of precision mechanisms. Although there are many types of flexure hinges available, designers often chose a single type of flexure hinge (e.g., circular flexure hinges) without considering others in the design of flexure-based mechanisms.

Optimized Flexural Hinges for Compliant Micromechanisms

Analog Integrated Circuits and Signal Processing, 2005
In this work a procedure for the optimal design of flexural hinges to be microfabricated by a lithographic process is proposed. The structural optimization problem is approached by coupling a parametric finite element model to an optimization algorithm.

Tractable model for concave flexure hinges

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2011
In this article we prove that approximate solutions previously developed by us, with inverse conformal mapping, for concave flexure notch hinges rotational compliance in correct applications are accurate enough in comparison with the more complicated “precision” solutions for the conic profiles based on the integration of differential equations, finite

Topology Optimization of Flexure Hinges

2018
This chapter is devoted to developing a systematic method for the topology optimization of flexure hinges. The main research work includes: (1) Developing basic topology optimization models for translational and revolute flexure hinges. The objective function for the topology optimization of flexure hinges is to maximize the compliance in the ...
