This chapter analyzes and compares the diegetic and symbolic roles of cinema as a motif across both HBO’s Watchmen and DC’s Doomsday Clock. HBO’s Watchmen inserts cinema into the origins of the superhero genre; instead of dating the emergence of the American superhero to Superman’s first appearance in Action Comics #1 (1938), it stretches further back ...

ACCOMMODATION FOR FLICKERING STIMULI
Ophthalmic and Physiological Optics, 1985Abstract— A laser optometer was used to measure accommodative responses of three observers for sinusoidal gratings presented in Maxwellian view at optical distances ranging from 0 to 4 dioptres. Contrast of the stimuli was modulated spatially at 1.0, 4.2 and 6.5 cycles deg. ‐1

CLINICAL FLICKER ELECTRORETINOGRAPHY
Optometry and Vision Science, 1968ABSTRACT The history of the ERG (Electroretinogram) is traced through its first recordings to present times. The origins of the ERG are discussed, leading to the potential application of this technique to clinical optometry.

Brown and Forsyth have recently performed a flicker-fusion experiment showing clearly that there is more to flicker than meets the eye. This report presents an analysis of their results which indicates the likelihood that at fusion threshold all but one of the Fourier components of their presentation are imperceptible.

Binocular Interactions in Flicker
Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1979Sherrington's (1904) study of binocular flicker was extended by measuring observers’ sensitivity to light that was modulated sinusoidally at frequencies between 0·1 and 50 Hz. Compared with the condition in which both eyes are stimulated in-phase, about 40% more modulation is needed to detect high-frequency flicker when the two eyes are stimulated in ...
