Intelligent flight controllers for helicopter control
Proceedings of International Conference on Neural Networks (ICNN'97), 2002A methodology for design of an intelligent helicopter flight controller is presented in this paper. The methodology combines artificial neural network, genetic algorithms, conventional PID-controllers, and fuzzy logic algorithms in the design procedure.

A nonlinear controller for parabolic flight
Proceedings of 32nd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2002The paper deals with the design of a nonlinear controller for asymptotic tracking of a given parabolic trajectory in flight dynamics. The problem here addressed is related to the possibility of maintaining microgravity conditions. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed controller. >

Summary:Flight before the Wright brothers demonstrated their powered man–carrying flying machine was based on the philosophy of vehicles with high inherent stability combined with pilots whose only duty was to steer. This combination resulted in low controllability and poor manoeuvrability, with a strong response to the disturbances of rough air.

Toward intelligent flight control
IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, 1993Flight control systems can benefit by being designed to emulate functions of natural intelligence. Intelligent control functions fall into three categories. Declarative actions involve decision making, providing models for system monitoring, goal planning, and system/scenario identification.

Flight testing a modern flight control system
1997 World Aviation Congress, 1997<div class="htmlview paragraph">With the increasing complexity of modern combat aircraft flight control systems, the flight trials phase of an aircraft development programme has become much more of an aircraft and systems model validaition exercise.

The introduction of fly-by-wire (FBW) flight control systems has been a watershed development in aircraft evolution as it has enabled technical advances to be made which were not possible before. One of the unique benefits of a FBW system is the ability to exploit aircraft configurations which provide increased aerodynamic efficiency, like more lift ...
