Long-distance pollinator flights and pollen dispersal between populations of Delphinium nuttallianum

Oecologia, 2001
Spatial processes in pollination biology are poorly understood, especially at levels above that of the local population. For example, little is known about how pollinators and pollen move among populations, although there is evidence that such movement can exceed what is predicted from intrapopulational movement.

The Relation of Flights of Colias to Larval Population Density

Ecology, 1949
The alfalfa caterpillar (Colias philodice eurytheme Boisduval), a native insect, has moved over from native legumes to introduced alfalfa and has become very abundant in the hot interior valleys of California. The largest populations in the San Joaquin Valley occur in mid-summer on the fourth and fifth crops of alfalfa.

Feeding cycles and flight activity in field populations of tsetse (Diptera:Glossinidae)

Bulletin of Entomological Research, 1978
AbstractPublished laboratory measurements of the levels of fat and haematin inGlossinafollowing a blood-meal were used to develop a prediction of the relationship between fat and haematin during the course of the feeding cycle. The fat-haematin relationship appears to be nearly linear over the later part of the feeding cycle.

Aerial performance of Drosophila melanogaster from populations selected for upwind flight ability

Journal of Experimental Biology, 1997
ABSTRACT A computerized system for three-dimensional tracking of large numbers of individual free-flying insects was used to assess the performance of Drosophila melanogaster from populations that had undergone 160 generations of selection for upwind flight ability.

The flight to the suburbs of population and employment, 1960–1970

Journal of Urban Economics, 1982
Abstract This paper develops an econometric model of suburbanization, analyzing the changing location of both population (classified by income and race) and of employment (divided into four sectors) in 106 large SMSAs. The results confirm that the differential mobility of upper-income residents, and white residents, has been a powerful force ...
