Comparative study of spinning field development in two species of araneophagic spiders (Araneae, Mimetidae, Australomimetus) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
External studies of spider spinning fields allow us to make inferences about internal silk gland biology, including what happens to silk glands when the spider molts.

Coexisting Rashba/Dresselhaus Spin Splitting in Solution‐Processed Bournonite Films Using Circular Photogalvanic Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Circular photogalvanic effect measurements and first‐principles calculations reveal spin‐splitting states in solution‐processed bournonite films (CuPbSbS3) due to structural and bulk inversion asymmetry. The results provide experimental confirmation of coexisting Rashba and Dresselhaus spin‐splitting states in this non‐centrosymmetric chalcogenide ...

Circular‐Polarization‐Sensitive Organic Photodetectors with a Chiral Nanopatterned Electrode Inverse‐Designed by Genetic Algorithm

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A chiral photodetector capable of selectively distinguishing left‐ and right‐handed circularly polarized light is experimentally demonstrated. The device, which features a nanopatterned electrode inverse‐designed by a genetic algorithm within a metal–dielectric–metal nanocavity that incorporates a vacuum‐deposited small‐molecule multilayer, exhibits ...

Causes As Difference‐Makers For Processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
It is natural to think of causes as difference-makers. What exact difference causes make, however, is an open question. In this paper, I argue that the right way of understanding difference-making is in terms of causal processes: causes make a difference

Flipped Classroom in Organic Chemistry Has Significant Effect on Students’ Grades [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in ICT, 2018
The flipped classroom as a form of active pedagogy in post-secondary chemistry has been developed during the last 10 years and has been gaining popularity with instructors and students ever since. In the current paradigm in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education, it is widely recognized that active learning has significant ...

The Organic Fusion of MOOC and Flipped Classroom

open access: yesDEStech Transactions on Social Science, Education and Human Science, 2017
MOOC and flipped classroom are the two advanced teaching modes being concerned by current education field for their features, and how to realize the organic fusion of the two modes is an exploring-worthy problem. The integration of MOOC and flipped classroom refers to turning the MOOC resources after localization processing into flipped classroom ...

Photon Avalanching Nanoparticles: The Next Generation of Upconverting Nanomaterials?

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This Perspective outlines the mechanistic foundations that enable photon‐avalanche (PA) behavior in lanthanide nanomaterials and contrasts them with emerging application spaces and forward‐looking design strategies. By bridging threshold engineering, energy‐transfer dynamics, and materials engineering, we provide a coherent roadmap for advancing the ...

Investigation of Halogen Substitution Effects in π‐Conjugated Organic Ligands of Chiral Hybrid Perovskites on Their Chiroptical Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The role of novel thiophene‐based ligands with halogen substitutions in enhancing the chiroptical and optoelectronic properties of 2D chiral HOIPs has been investigated. By tailoring ligand design, enhanced CD and CPL properties are achieved, with improved CPL discrimination in photodetectors.
