Respirable Dust Exposure in Western Australian Mining: Trends, Variability, and Implications for Occupational Health

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Mining workers are exposed to a range of respiratory hazards, including respirable dust. While exposure to respirable crystalline silica in the mining industry has been found to be common, less is known about trends in measured levels of exposure to respirable dust overall.

Pharmacological evaluation of Adenostemma lavenia acetone extract in Swiss Albino mice: Analgesic, anti‐inflammatory, and thrombolytic insights from in vivo, in vitro, density functional theory, and molecular docking studies

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Adenostemma lavenia, a traditionally used medicinal plant, has been employed to manage pain, inflammation, and circulatory issues. This study investigates the analgesic, anti‐inflammatory, and thrombolytic potentials of the acetone extract of A. lavenia leaves (AEAL) using in vivo, in vitro, and in silico methods.

Alternative Translation Initiation in PRKN Delays the Onset of Parkinson's Disease and Offers a Therapeutic Target

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Biallelic variants in PRKN cause autosomal recessive Parkinson's disease (PD) with a median age at onset of 31 years. When evaluating the 16 previously published carriers of a homozygous deletion of Exon 2 from the International Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorder Society Gene Database (MDSGene) database, the median age at onset is ...

Experimental Study on the Enhancement of Heat Transfer Performance in Sintered‐Core Heat Pipes Using CuO Nanofluid

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study presents the design and construction of an experimental system for evaluating the thermal performance of heat pipes, using sintered‐wick heat pipes charged with CuO nanofluids. The device used in this study is a sintered‐wick heat pipe, in which the liquid return is driven by capillary forces within the porous wick structure.

The relationship between form and function of the carnivore mandible

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Dietary morphology diversified extensively in Carnivoraformes (living Carnivora and their stem relatives) during the Cenozoic (the last 66 million years) as they evolved to capture, handle, and process new animal and plant diets. We used 3D geometric morphometrics, mechanical advantage, and finite element analysis to test the evolutionary ...

On the numerical solution of chaotic dynamical systems using extend precision floating point arithmetic and very high order numerical methods

open access: yesNonlinear Analysis, 2011
Multiple results in the literature exist that indicate that all computed solutions to chaotic dynamical systems are time-step dependent. That is, solutions with small but different time steps will decouple from each other after a certain (small) finite ...

Ontogenetic changes and sexual dimorphism in the cranium and mandible of the Atlantic walrus (Odobenus rosmarus rosmarus L.)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Walruses have been an important subsistence and cultural resource for humans and have been exploited for millennia across their distribution. This exploitation has contributed to severe declines in several populations and local extirpations.

Fast Generation of Custom Floating-Point Spatial Filters on FPGAs

open access: yesIEEE Access
Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have been utilised in many image and video processing applications. The convolution operator, also known as a spatial filter, is usually a linear operation, but this linearity compromises essential features and ...

From armadillos to sloths: Patterns and variations in xenarthran coronary anatomy

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Species of the superorder Xenarthra play a vital ecological role in the Neotropics. Despite their evolutionary significance, anatomical studies on their coronary circulation remain scarce. This study investigated the coronary anatomy of 82 hearts from nine Xenarthra species across the Dasypodidae, Myrmecophagidae, and Bradypodidae.
