We propose a new complex block floating-point format to reduce implementation complexity. The new format achieves wordlength reduction by sharing an exponent across the block of samples, and uses box encoding for the shared exponent to reduce ...

Optimal realizations of floating-point implemented digital controllers with finite word length considerations. [PDF]
The closed-loop stability issue of finite word length (FWL) realizations is investigated for digital controllers implemented in floating-point arithmetic. Unlike the existing methods which only address the effect of the mantissa bits in floating-point

An all‐in‐one analog AI accelerator is presented, enabling on‐chip training, weight retention, and long‐term inference acceleration. It leverages a BEOL‐integrated CMO/HfOx ReRAM array with low‐voltage operation (<1.5 V), multi‐bit capability over 32 states, low programming noise (10 nS), and near‐ideal weight transfer.

Structure–Transport–Ion Retention Coupling for Enhanced Nonvolatile Artificial Synapses
Nitrogen incorporation into the conjugated backbone of donor–acceptor polymers enables efficient charge transfer and deep ion embedding in organic electrochemical synaptic transistors (OESTs). This molecular‐level design enhances non‐volatile synaptic properties, providing a new strategy for developing high‐performance and reliable neuromorphic devices.

Optimizing FDTD Memory Bandwidth by Using Block Float-Point Arithmetic
Finite-difference time-domain is a numerical method used for modelling of computational electrodynamics. The method is resource intensive, especially regarding memory usage. Multiple memory accesses are required per single computation so memory bandwidth

Membrane Wrapping for High Capacity and Rapidly Switchable Adhesives
A membrane‐wrapping mechanism enables high‐capacity, rapidly switchable adhesion by coupling suction, friction, and adhesion. Broadband performance is achieved in dry and underwater conditions, allowing fast, reversible manipulation of objects of diverse sizes and shapes, from delicate eggs and berries to flat, complex, or heavy objects. These outcomes

Numerical Difficulties in Pre-University Informatics Education and Competitions
It is easy to underestimate the difficulties of using floating-point numbers in programming. This is especially the case in pre-university informatics education and competitions, where one is often led to believe that floating-point arithmetic is a good ...

Support vector machines implementation over integers modulo-M and Residue Number System
In low-power hardware implementations for classification algorithms, it is often essential to use physical resources efficiently. In this sense, the use of modulo-M integer operations instead of floating-point arithmetic, can lead to better performance,

Toward accurate polynomial evaluation in rounded arithmetic [PDF]
Given a multivariate real (or complex) polynomial $p$ and a domain $\cal D$, we would like to decide whether an algorithm exists to evaluate $p(x)$ accurately for all $x \in {\cal D}$ using rounded real (or complex) arithmetic.

Bioprosthetic aortic valves have revolutionized the treatment of aortic stenosis, but their durability is limited by structural valve deterioration (SVD). This review focuses on the pericardial tissue at the heart of these valves, examining how its mechanical properties and calcification drive fatigue and failure.
