Hinged Floating Breakwater

An analytical model is developed to examine the response and efficiency of a rigid, hinged floating breakwater. The theoretical model is verified experimentally and is used to develop design curves which may be employed to estimate necessary physical breakwater characteristics to satisfy specified wave attenuation criteria.

Floating pontoon breakwaters

The hydrodynamic properties of a pair of long floating pontoon breakwaters of rectangular section are investigated theoretically. The structures are partially restrained by linear symmetric moorings fore and aft. The fluid motion is idealized as linearized, two-dimensional potential flow.

Floating Breakwater Design

Floating breakwaters are inventoried. The various types are separated into 4 general categories, which are Box, Pontoon, Mat, and Tethered Float. The Tethered Float was identified as a special category but lacked sufficient prototype experience for detailed analysis. Advantages and disadvantages of the Box, Pontoon and Mat are presented.

Port of Brownsville Floating Breakwater

The technical aspects of a new floating breakwater concept installed at the Port of Brownsville Marina, located in Port Orchard Bay, Washington, are described in this paper.
