Flexible Floating Breakwater

Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering, 1991
This study investigated the behavior of a flexible, floating breakwater consisting of a moored, compliant, beam-like structure anchored to the seabed and possessing a small buoyancy chamber at the tip. The fluid domain is treated utilizing the boundary integral equation method, modifications have been made to the basic formulation to account for the ...

Floating Breakwater Design

Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering, 1985
Floating breakwaters are inventoried. The various types are separated into 4 general categories, which are Box, Pontoon, Mat, and Tethered Float. The Tethered Float was identified as a special category but lacked sufficient prototype experience for detailed analysis. Advantages and disadvantages of the Box, Pontoon and Mat are presented.

Submerged Floating Breakwaters

Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering, 1991
In this paper we show how a submerged body can, if properly tuned to the incoming waves, reflect an appreciable amount of the incident wave energy by creating waves through its own motion which effectively cancel the incident waves passing over it. A general theory for this phenomenon is described which is applied to the cases of a hinged vertical ...

Floating pontoon breakwaters

Ocean Engineering, 2000
The hydrodynamic properties of a pair of long floating pontoon breakwaters of rectangular section are investigated theoretically. The structures are partially restrained by linear symmetric moorings fore and aft. The fluid motion is idealized as linearized, two-dimensional potential flow.

Hinged Floating Breakwater

Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering, 1985
An analytical model is developed to examine the response and efficiency of a rigid, hinged floating breakwater. The theoretical model is verified experimentally and is used to develop design curves which may be employed to estimate necessary physical breakwater characteristics to satisfy specified wave attenuation criteria.

Dual pontoon floating breakwater

Ocean Engineering, 1997
The hydrodynamic properties of a dual pontoon floating breakwater consisting of a pair of floating cylinders of rectangular section, connected by a rigid deck, is investigated theoretically. The structure is partially restrained by linear symmetric moorings fore and aft.

Tethered Float Breakwater

OCEANS '79, 1979
This paper presents the Tethered Float Breakwater (TFB) which was developed as part of the Navy's Container Offloading and Transfer System (COTS). COTS provides fleet logistic support for sustained operations that include at-sea cargo transfer in unprotected areas having sea-states up through 4. With the TFB, a portable wave attenuation system, the sea-
