Development of the Ihi Floating Breakwater
Coastal Engineering in Japan, 1979ABSTRACTWith the advent of the era of 200-mile economic sea zones, the efficient utilization of coastal waters has increasingly been required. Accordingly, many various facilities for cultivating marine products as well as port and harbor facilities, which used to be installed usually in shallow water of a bay, are obliged to be hereafter installed ...

Port of Brownsville Floating Breakwater
Ports '01, 2001The technical aspects of a new floating breakwater concept installed at the Port of Brownsville Marina, located in Port Orchard Bay, Washington, are described in this paper. The breakwater incorporates submerged porous treated timber "wave fences" installed on either side of the concrete pontoons to reduce wave transmission.

Dual pontoon floating breakwater
Ocean Engineering, 1997The hydrodynamic properties of a dual pontoon floating breakwater consisting of a pair of floating cylinders of rectangular section, connected by a rigid deck, is investigated theoretically. The structure is partially restrained by linear symmetric moorings fore and aft.

Wave interactions with a floating breakwater
2012 IEEE Colloquium on Humanities, Science and Engineering (CHUSER), 2012The present paper describes the hydraulic performance of a newly developed floating breakwater in regular waves. Laboratory tests were conducted with the aim of determining the wave transmission, reflection and energy dissipation characteristics of the breakwater model under various wave conditions.

Assessment of floating breakwaters
Marine Behaviour and Physiology, 1992Structures for wave attenuation, i.e. floating breakwaters, exist mainly as theoretical concepts. Research into floating breakwaters has a long way to go before a practical floating breakwater is developed. However, the demand for development of such structures has always been strong in the field of offshore engineering.

Abstract A numerical model is developed to investigate the behavior of a pair of flexible, floating breakwaters consisting of complaint, beam-like structures anchored to the sea bed. Each structure is kept under tension by a small buoyancy chamber at the tip, additional stiffness in each case is provided by mooring lines attached to the buoyancy ...

Dynamics of Cage Floating Breakwater
Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering, 2005Floating breakwaters have potential applications in protecting minor ports and harbors such as fisheries and recreational harbors, where-in stringent tranquillity requirements are not warranted. In field applications of the existing floating breakwaters, limitations are imposed due to their large relative width (ratio between breakwater width and wave ...

Marina protection by floating breakwaters
1995In this paper floating breakwaters as environmentally acceptable structures for the protection of marinas and small harbours from waves are presented. Actions by which wave height is reduced are described, and some types of floating breakwaters are presented.
