Potential environmental impacts of floating solar photovoltaic systems

open access: yesRenewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews
The use of floating photovoltaic systems in freshwater and marine environments is forecast to increase dramatically worldwide within the next decade in response to demands for accelerated decarbonisation of the global economy whilst avoiding competition for land, particularly near population centres.

Asymmetry in shape causing absolute negative mobility

open access: yes, 2010
We propose a simple classical concept of nanodevices working in an absolute negative mobility (ANM) regime: The minimal spatial asymmetry required for ANM to occur is embedded in the geometry of the transported particle, rather than in the channel design.

Droplet Electricity Generators With Maximized Energy Collection Zone Enabled by Aloe‐Inspired Midrib and Cuticle

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An Aloe‐pinspired droplet electricity generator (A‐DEG) overcomes the limited energy collection zone of conventional DEGs by guiding impact droplets through a channeling midrib and artificial cuticle. The channeling midrib induces uni‐directional droplet spreading, while the artificial cuticle on the midrib further reinforces this behavior through its ...

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

Highly‐Emissive Organic Photovoltaics Approaching Theoretical Limit Voltage and Enabling Multifunctional Energy‐Harvesting Displays

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A highly‐emissive organic photovoltaic employs donor–acceptor pairs with alternately localized frontier molecular orbitals, preserving high triplet energies and small reorganization energies to suppress non‐radiative recombination. As a result, it exhibits a high open‐circuit voltage approaching the Shockley–Queisser limit and a high ...

A Scalable Perovskite Platform With Multi‐State Photoresponsivity for In‐Sensor Saliency Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable in‐sensor computing platform (32 × 32 array) with ultra‐low variability is developed by incorporating ferroelectric copolymers into halide perovskite thin films. These devices achieve 1000 programmable photoresponsivity states and high thermal reliability.

Power Generation Efficiency and Prospects of Floating Photovoltaic Systems

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2017
Abstract At present, China's economic and social development is restricted by many factors, such as environmental pollution and the supply of energy, land resources and water resources. Compared with traditional terrestrial photovoltaic (PV) systems, floating PV systems can save a lot of land and water resources and obtain higher power generation ...
