Floating ocean platforms

IEEE 1971 Conference on Engineering in the Ocean Environment, 1971
Floating ocean platforms have many potential applications. Concrete construction has definite cost advantages over steel construction. Modular designs lead to feasible construction techniques. This paper discusses the design and motion of platforms designed with these observations as guides.

Floating Offshore Wind Platforms

2016
The chapter introduces the platform types designed for supporting the tower, nacelle and turbine assembly of floating offshore wind turbines. Basic information on hydrodynamics is presented to provide an understanding of platform behaviour in waves. The classification method that distinguishes the platform types is stabilization.

Floating Ocean Platform

2003
Abstract : In FY 1990, Congress directed the Secretary of the Navy to commission a study by the National Academy of Sciences for the production of an integrated technology plan for the evolution of aircraft carriers in the first half of the twenty-first century. The House-Senate conferees emphasized "that the product of this study is to be a technology

Response of floating platforms to seismic excitation

Engineering Analysis, 1984
Abstract The nonlinear transient response of floating platforms to seaquake-induced excitation is studied taking into account cavitation effects. The motion transmitted to the LPG is assumed to consist only of vertical pulses causing the same transient water pressures at all points of the LPG bottom.

On the Research and Development of Floating Offshore Platform

Volume 6: Nick Newman Symposium on Marine Hydrodynamics; Yoshida and Maeda Special Symposium on Ocean Space Utilization; Special Symposium on Offshore Renewable Energy, 2008
Japan, a land-resource-poor country, has an Exclusive Economic Zone with the area of the sixth place in the world, 4.47 million km2. In order to utilize the resources in EEZ, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism started a project of floating offshore platform in 2007 and National Maritime Research Institute is conducting the ...

Flexible Floating Platform

2011
In this chapter we consider the two-dimensional interaction of an incident wave with a flexible floating dock or very large floating platform (VLFP) with finite draft. The water depth is finite. The case of a rigid dock is a classical problem. For instance Mei and Black (J. Fluid Mech.

A Tension Leg Floating Platform

1985
The tension leg platform is a new platform concept which is being developed for the Hutton Field in the U.K. sector of the North Sea. The Hutton TLP is a floating drilling and production platform attached by vertical tension legs to piled foundation templates on the sea bed.

Dynamics of ships and floating platforms

2010
Three dimensional angular motions of ships and floating platforms are investigated using Euler's dynamical equations. The solution of Euler's equations predict two new oscillatory motions, namely roll and pitch together with a constant yawing or turning-rate.
