Computing floating-point logarithms with fixed-point operations [PDF]

open access: yes2016 IEEE 23nd Symposium on Computer Arithmetic (ARITH), 2016
Elementary functions from the mathematical library input and output floating-point numbers. However it is possible to implement them purely using integer/fixed-point arithmetic. This option was not attractive between 1985 and 2005, because mainstream processor hardware supported 64-bit floating-point, but only 32-bit integers.

Exact Versus Inexact Decimal Floating-Point Numbers and Arithmetic

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
The IEEE 754 standard does not distinguish between exact and inexact floating-point numbers. There is no bit or field in the binary encoding that indicates whether a floating-point number is exact or not.

Floating Point Optimization Using VHDL [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2009
Due to inherent limitations of the fixed-point representation, it is sometimes desirable to perform arithmetic operations in the floating-point format.

Development of floating point operating devices

open access: yesTechnology audit and production reserves, 2023
The paper shows a well-known approach to the construction of cores in multi-core microprocessors, which is based on the application of a data flow graph-driven calculation model. The architecture of such kernels is based on the application of the reduced instruction set level data flow model proposed by Yale Patt.

Design and Implementation of Multicore Floating-point Nonlinear Operation Coprocessor [PDF]

open access: yesJisuanji gongcheng, 2017
When designing terminal instrument for manned spacecraft, the floating-point nonlinear operation of processing algorithms is achieved by library function. But the speed is always very slow, when software is used to implement nonlinear operations, which ...

Study of FPGA-based Error-controllable Floating-point Operation Accelerators [PDF]

open access: yesJisuanji gongcheng
Floating-point operations are fundamental operations in the field of High-Performance Computing(HPC). In the context of big data and cloud computing, the amount of data that HPC platforms need to process is continuously growing, and the round-off error of ...

Lightweight Floating Platform for Ground-Based Emulation of On-Orbit Scenarios

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
Orbital space operations must be executed safely and reliably to prevent unwanted failures. One way to validate these operations on Earth is by using testbed facilities that emulate zero-gravity conditions. This article presents the design and evaluation

Optimistic Parallelization of Floating-Point Accumulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Floating-point arithmetic is notoriously non-associative due to the limited precision representation which demands intermediate values be rounded to fit in the available precision.
