The flock–to–flock force of infection for scrapie in Britain [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B: Biological Sciences, 2001
A postal survey of British sheep farmers provided information on the proportion of farms that experienced their first case of scrapie in each year between 1962 and 1998. We found no evidence of a large increase in the proportion of scrapie-affected farms prior to, during or following the epidemic of BSE in British cattle.

Producing Higher Value Wool through a Transition from Romney to Merino Crossbred: Constraining Sheep Feed Demand

open access: yesAgriculture, 2021
A strategy to increase wool income for coarse wool (fibre diameter > 30 µm) producers through a transition to higher value medium wool (fibre diameter between 25 and 29 µm) was identified, with previous analyses allowing sheep feed demand increases to ...

On Monomial Flocks

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Combinatorics, 2001
A flock of a quadratic cone is a partition of a quadratic cone minus its vertex (in 3-dimensional projective space) into plane conics. These objects give rise to a lot of other interesting objects such as translation planes, elation generalized quadrangles, (herds of) ovals, ovoids, regular hyperbolic fibrations, etc. If the associated functions of the

Flocks, herds, and schools: A quantitative theory of flocking [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 1998
We present a quantitative continuum theory of ``flocking'': the collective coherent motion of large numbers of self-propelled organisms. Our model predicts the existence of an ``ordered phase'' of flocks, in which all members of the flock move together with the same mean velocity.

Groups and Individuals: Optical Flow Patterns of Broiler Chicken Flocks Are Correlated with the Behavior of Individual Birds

open access: yesAnimals, 2021
Group level measures of welfare flocks have been criticized on the grounds that they give only average measures and overlook the welfare of individual animals. However, we here show that the group-level optical flow patterns made by broiler flocks can be
