On Monomial Flocks

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Combinatorics, 2001
A flock of a quadratic cone is a partition of a quadratic cone minus its vertex (in 3-dimensional projective space) into plane conics. These objects give rise to a lot of other interesting objects such as translation planes, elation generalized quadrangles, (herds of) ovals, ovoids, regular hyperbolic fibrations, etc. If the associated functions of the

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

Relative contribution of production chain phases to health and performance of broiler chickens: a field study

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2020
: There is increasing evidence that health and performance of the breeder flock significantly contributes to health and performance of their progeny.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Autonomous Shepherding Behaviors of Multiple Target Steering Robots

open access: yesSensors, 2017
This paper presents a distributed coordination methodology for multi-robot systems, based on nearest-neighbor interactions. Among many interesting tasks that may be performed using swarm robots, we propose a biologically-inspired control law for a ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Reporting Flock Patterns

open access: yesComputational Geometry, 2006
The authors discuss algorithms to detect flocks in moving objects. They start with a set of \(n\) identities in the plane and the position of the entities at time steps \(t_1,\dots, t_\tau\). It is supposed that these time steps are taken synchronously for all the identities and that the movement between the steps is linear at constant speed.
