Oxygen Isotope Variations of Basaltic Lavas and Upper Mantle Rocks [PDF]
This chapter summarizes the oxygen isotope geochemistry of terrestrial basalts and their mantle sources, including the conceptual framework for interpreting such data and the phenomenology of known variations.

Subcratonic low‐velocity layer and flood basalts
Teleseismic recordings of several seismograph stations are processed with the aid of the S receiver function technique [Farra and Vinnik, 2000]. The data provide evidence of a strong reduction of S velocity at a depth around 360 km (station BOSA) and 280–300 km (station LBTB) in the East of southern Africa.

Flood basalts of the mid‐Miocene Columbia River Basalt Group (CRBG) cover 210,000 km2 of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. The source of CRBG melt is debated; widely spaced feeder dike swarms can be projected toward hypothetical sources near the Oregon ...

Field trip stop descriptions [PDF]
Fifteen sites within the channeled scabland were selected as stops with the dual aim of visiting locations critical to the arguments for a catastrophic flood origin of the scablands, as well as permitting an examination of the variability in both ...

Cenozoic Carbon Dioxide: The 66 Ma Solution
The trend in partial pressure of atmospheric CO2, P(CO2), across the 66 MYr of the Cenozoic requires elucidation and explanation. The Null Hypothesis sets sea surface temperature (SST) as the baseline driver for Cenozoic P(CO2).

Terrestrial Analogs to Titan for Geophysical Research
Abstract Saturn's moon Titan exhibits remarkable parallels to the Earth in many geophysical and geological processes not found elsewhere in the solar system at the present day. These include a nitrogen atmosphere with a condensible gas—methane—replacing the Earth's water, leading to an active meteorology with rainfall and surface manifestations ...

Gully erosion in India: Geo‐environmental controls and region‐specific characteristics
Spatial statistical analyses using a novel spatial database of India‧s gully erosion landforms revealed that India has six major gullying‐affected regions, three of which (EU, DU, and KCH) are dominated by gully systems (gully networks), with badlands (vast intensely gullied landscapes) being predominant in the other three regions (YB, GP, and RU ...
