Assessment of ecosystem status in Mozambique and implications for environmental planning

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, EarlyView.
We assess Mozambique's terrestrial ecosystems using the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems framework, showing that more than half of Mozambique's ecosystems are threatened, with impacts primarily concentrated in temperate subhumid grasslands and pyric tussock savannas.

Zircon ages delimit the provenance of a sand extrudite from the Botucatu Formation in the Paraná volcanic province, Iraí, Brazil

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2015
Ion microprobe age determinations of 102 detrital zircon crystals from a sand extrudite, Cretaceous Paraná volcanic province, set limits on the origin of the numerous sand layers present in this major flood basalt province.

Signals of Supersymmetric Dark Matter [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The Lightest Supersymmetric Particle predicted in most of the supersymmetric scenarios is an ideal candidate for the dark matter of cosmology. Their detection is of extreme significance today.

Asymmetric continental deformation during South Atlantic rifting along southern Brazil and Namibia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Plate restoration of South America and Africa to their pre-breakup position faces the problem of gaps and overlaps between the continents, an issue commonly solved with implementing intra-plate deformation zones within South America.

Petrogenesis of the Adigrat basalts from the Oligocene Ethiopian flood basalt province in Tigrai, Northern Ethiopia

open access: yesScientific African
The Adigrat basalts are exposed along a prominent E-W extending ridge between Adigrat and Shire at the northern edge of the Ethiopian continental flood basalt province. They form up to twenty three individual lava flows with a total thickness of ∼ 1200 m.

Flood basalt eruptions, comet showers, and mass extinction events [PDF]

open access: yes
A chronology of initiation dates of the major continental flood basalt episodes has been established from compilation of published K-Ar and Ar-Ar ages of basaltic flows and related basic intrusions.

Flood Basalts and Mass Extinctions

open access: yesAnnual Review of Earth and Planetary Sciences, 2019
Flood basalts were Earth's largest volcanic episodes that, along with related intrusions, were often emplaced rapidly and coincided with environmental disruption: oceanic anoxic events, hyperthermals, and mass extinction events. Volatile emissions, both from magmatic degassing and vaporized from surrounding rock, triggered short-term cooling and ...

Scientific results from the deepened Lopra-1 borehole, Faroe Islands: Wire-line log-based stratigraphy of flood basalts from the Lopra-1/1A well, Faroe Islands [PDF]

open access: yesGeological Survey of Denmark and Greenland Bulletin, 2006
The present study shows that it is possible to use conventional borehole logs to perform a detailed lithological/stratigraphical division of a column of subaerially extruded basalt.
