Understanding Ionic Flow in Nanofluidic Blind‐Hole Anodic Aluminum Oxide (AAO) Membranes for Osmotic Energy Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes have traditionally served as structural supports in osmotic energy systems. Here, blind‐hole AAO membranes are demonstrated as active ion‐selective platforms with tunable nanopore structures. By balancing membrane resistance, ion selectivity, and flux, enhanced performance is achieved, delivering a maximum power ...

Multidirectional Motion Strategy of Miniature Water Surface Robot Actuated by Single Exciter

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A novel multidirectional motion strategy on the water surface based on a single exciter is proposed, and a single‐exciter single‐plate module is developed for actuation. The driving forces generation mechanism of the module is revealed from the perspective of the asymmetric surface wave field.

Identification of a change in climate state using regional flood data [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2002
Flood frequency analysis typically assumes that annual floods arise from a single distribution and are independent. However, there is significant evidence for the existence of persistent climate modes. Timescales associated with climate variability range

Multimodel assessment of flood characteristics in four large river basins at global warming of 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0 K above the pre-industrial level

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2018
This study assesses the flood characteristics (timing, magnitude and frequency) in the pre-industrial and historical periods, and analyzes climate change impacts on floods at the warming levels of 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0 K above the pre-industrial level in four

Orbital changes, variation in solar activity and increased anthropogenic activities: controls on the Holocene flood frequency in the Lake Ledro area, Northern Italy [PDF]

open access: yesClimate of the Past, 2013
Two lacustrine sediment cores from Lake Ledro in northern Italy were studied to produce chronologies of flood events for the past 10 000 yr. For this purpose, we have developed an automatic method that objectively identifies the sedimentary imprint of ...

Multimodal Locomotion in Insect‐Inspired Microrobots: A Review of Strategies for Aerial, Surface, Aquatic, and Interfacial Motion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This review identifies key design considerations for insect‐inspired microrobots capable of multimodal locomotion. To draw inspiration, biological and robotic strategies for moving in air, on water surfaces, and underwater are examined, along with approaches for crossing the air–water interface.

Regional flood frequency analysis and prediction in ungauged basins including estimation of major uncertainties for mid-Norway

open access: yes, 2017
Study region 26 boreal catchments (mid-Norway). Study focus We performed regional flood frequency analysis (RFFA) using the L -moments method and annual maximum series (AMS) of mean daily streamflow observations for reliable prediction of flood quantiles.

Climate Change Threatens Micronutrient Density of European Winter Wheat

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Micronutrients are vital for human health. Wheat is a major staple crop and a significant source of minerals and B‐vitamins. The impact of climate change on their content remains largely unknown. We evaluated micronutrient levels in European winter wheat grown under historical and projected climate conditions. Our findings indicate that future climates
